Post Vaccination Behavior

Talked to him this morning, he had a good checkup and has been told that he is in good shape and has a mild case of Covid. He is home with instructions on how to look after himself. My sister is doing a supplies and medications run for him this morning. He said they were very reassuring and he feels much more positive. By the time he called us at 8:20 he had already received a call from the NHS who will be calling daily from this point on to check on his progress.

That’s good. I assume they gave him something to get him past the dehydration? Dehydration is dangerous.

Great news Alan!

I find it really amazing that NHS calls daily to check on him. When my niece contracted COVID, no one checked on her at all. She was left to self-monitor (thankfully she obtained an O2 sat monitor at my urging).

The NHS might have its critics, but I like how they are handling things for your family.

Thanks.

We had already bought him dioralyte tablets which make up into an electrolyte drink and he was told to keep up his fluids, including these drinks. My sister bought him some more when she did a supply run for him yesterday. Since he has the oximeter we loaned him they also said to do regular monitoring of his oxygen levels.

The daily NHS checks have been standard during Covid, and where multiple people are infected they insist on talking to each person, they won't accept 2nd hand information. This has been the case with both my sisters and their husbands, and my wife's niece with her husband. The only 2nd hand update they would accept was from one of my nieces giving an update on her 8 year old who caught Covid over Christmas.

With the sister that lives close by us their 23 year old daughter who lives with them caught Covid as well as them so for several days all 3 were called to give updates on how they were doing.

Great news, Alan!

New travel updates from the CDC.

https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/travel-during-covid19.html

Updated Information for Travelers

* Fully vaccinated travelers are less likely to get and spread COVID-19.

* People who are fully vaccinated with an FDA-authorized vaccine can travel safely within the United States:
- Fully vaccinated travelers do not need to get tested before or after travel unless their destination requires it
- Fully vaccinated travelers do not need to self-quarantine

* Fully vaccinated travelers should still follow CDC’s recommendations for traveling safely including:
- Wear a mask over your nose and mouth
- Stay 6 feet from others and avoid crowds
- Wash your hands often or use hand sanitizer

Two weeks after I get my second shot, I am going to return to my in person yoga classes at our local Y. That's my last thing that I am missing. There are quite a few things that I did not miss!

I'm sure a lot of people who've been more conservative will now feel better about traveling after vaccination.

Some people may have been paying attention to the CDC.

I have been following the CDC guidelines in my life very closely so the new CDC rules will mean I will start traveling (after DH recovers from his knee replacement).

Does this actually change anything? AFAIK, a very few states had ineffectual and unenforceable quarantine rules last summer, but that's about it. They seem to be silent on international travel where it would make a difference - especially if one could show a vax card instead of a test to return.

Well, I'm hoping that Hawaii will eliminate their test requirement for those who've been vaccinated. We would go if they did.

That would be great. I forgot about Hawaii. It was our last pre-Covid trip too.

Thank you for a wonderful update Alan!
Those welfare phone calls are the most effective and cost-effective thing they could do.

A little late to this, but I am glad to hear that your son is home from the hospital, Alan. I wish him a quick recovery.

The update from the CDC will make me feel better about traveling also.

I will be fully vaccinated before the end of April, but still think I will delay a trip to New Jersey and New York I had planned for the beginning of May by a couple of weeks. Too much going on with COVID close to NYC.

Maybe I'm being overly cautious, but it feels right.

Now fully vaccinated, I ventured into a crowded store for the first time in a year today. If I hadn't been, I would have turned away from the parking lot. It seemed TERRIBLY crowded and chaotic. I wonder if that was the reality, or that I was just out of practice! Anyway, I learned to love senior hour, and plan to favor that whenever possible.

Dined indoors at a restaurant today for the first time in more than a year. (DW and I got our second Moderna shot over a month ago.)

We were treated to lunch at a nice steak restaurant by another fully vaccinated couple. They wanted to thank us for allowing them to take showers and do laundry at our house during the almost three weeks they were without water after winter storm Uri hit TX in February.

so I'm going to try and get the vaccine on sunday at a walk in location, assuming it happens (I think I'm not going to count as eligible since the site isn't in SF, but my friends think I will and want me to try) I'm getting the J&J vaccine which is definitely my third choice. Thinking about it I'm not sure a 66% efficacy is enough to make me change any behaviours (Which may disappoint the friends who are hoping I will be up for hugs and whatnot once vaccinated).

Thanks.

Truly amazing and so different from here in the USA!

I can't figure out how one would stay 6 feet from others on an airplane.

What a difference a day makes, our son is now in hospital after his oxygen levels plummeted, he continues to vomit and is now having some breathing problems.

He said he had a terrible night and will be seeing the doctor again later this morning. No visitors allowed of course, vaccinated or not.

I don’t want to hijack this thread so I’ll only mention any major changes.
