I just luv a well-made hot Reuben sandwich.

When I wanna a cold one, a good BLT hits the spot, although egg salad on simple white bread is a close third fave.

What are your favorite hot and cold sandwiches? (Got a recipe you'd like to share?)

Cold - [reflecting my Brooklyn, NY roots] Bagel and lox

Hot - Pulled pork on a roll.

Cold - Really like a club sandwich with extra Mayo and pickles. Close to a BLT only better.

Hot - I don’t eat them anymore, but I love a hot beef or turkey sandwich. The ones with mashed potatoes and the entire sandwich smothered in gravy.

Cold - Italian Sub with all 3 meats, cheese, olive oil & vinegar, oregano salt & pepper.

Hot - Philly cheese steak with grilled onions, peppers and mushrooms.

Just talking about the hot one today. Pastrami but it needs to be on the sourdough bread from my favorite Detroit deli or deli store that sells the same one.

Don't really have a cold one.

I have been on a quest for The Perfect French Dip since I was six. I've come close to finding it several times, but usually it's the bread that tanks the experience. To be honest, I'm really hoping I never reach the end of the quest, as it instantly solves the "what do I order" question for me at a new restaurant.

Second favorite is a gyro. Soooo good.

For cold? A homemade BLT with home-grown tomatoes and lettuce, thick-cut semicrisp bacon on homemade whole wheat bread is really hard to beat. I am also very partial to the Kip Curry sandwich at Panos (sandwich chain somewhat like Panera) in Belgium -- essentially a crusty French roll filled with curried chicken salad (without any sweet things in it --- just shredded chicken, curry mayonnaise, and maybe some diced onion or celery. No grapes, apples, or raisins need apply).

When I was a kid, I would also make a sandwich I'd read about in the Trixie Belden mystery novels. You take two pieces of whole wheat bread and spread both well with butter. Then put peanut butter, apricot jam, sliced banana and drizzled honey on and enjoy. It's sweet but delicious.

What about the Sandwich That Got Away? Once I was traveling in London and stopped to pick up a sandwich in the financial district. One of the men in front of me got a bacon-avocado sandwich. It was on a crusty roll and was about 1/4 inch of mayonnaise topped with a solid 2 inches of waves of crispy bacon, then topped with another 2 or three inches of ripe sliced and slightly crushed avocado, then another 1/4-inch layer of mayonnaise before the top roll. It looked like a heart attack just waiting to happen, and also delicious. I regret that I didn't try it on the spot. That chance is never going to come again.

Cold - Italian sub - Provolone, ham, prosciuttini, cappacuolo, salami, and pepperoni, oil, vinegar, lettuce, tomato

Hot - Cheeseburger with the works

Hands down a Muffuletta from Central Grocery.

A veggie panini from Gastronomia Giulia De Biase Pasquale Napoli Italy.

Cold - just a simple BLT
Hot - bacon cheeseburger

Cold: Mashed bananas (ripeness level: first day of flecked with spots), mixed with peanut butter (smooth, 100% peanuts) on Oroweat's Honey Wheat Berry bread.

Hot: Pulled pork with a little cole slaw on bread baked by someone who believes with all his heart that Wonder Bread is unfit for human consumption.

We didn't really have deli sandwiches growing up in the South.

But we did have barbeque. My favorite was Gridley's BBQ in Memphis where the pulled pork was piled 2" or more resulting in a 4" tall sandwich. With cole slaw and hot sauce.

Leonards and Willinghams also put out great sandwiches.

The pork's no longer so tasty as modern pork has been Tysonized--too lean to produce that great smoke when cooking over a hickory fire.

Had my favorite last night: slow cooked roast beef, cheese, fried shrimp, on french bread. With rich gravy to dip the po-boy in.

Hot pastrami with mayonnaise, lettuce and onions.

Italian submarine (aka grinder), again with mayonnaise, lettuce and onions.

While I like tomatoes, I don't like them on sandwiches except for BLTs.

Since it has not been mentioned, pulled BBQ pork on Sunbeam or Colonial bread with a vinegar based sauce and a dill pickle chip.

In reality I have trouble picking favorite foods. BLTs, po-boys, ruebens, grilled cheese, chili dogs, Philly steaks "wit" authentic tacos and many others make the list.

ETA: The DW votes for a tomato sandwich (home grown) with mayo, salt and pepper.

+1
Sounds like us exactly. It drives DW crazy, but it really depends on what I’m in the mood for. Lol
I would like to add either a lobster or crab roll from Bob’s Clam hut in Kittery, ME
First place we stop when we cross the border :)
Also not mentioned, but one of my favorites is a good Cubano. Mmm-mm

I like it simple and homemade...

Cold: mustardy egg salad
Hot: mayo-y grilled cheese and tomato

bubbies dill pickle

throw in a few herbs and kale if growing in the garden

Not sure I have favorites, several listed above I like a lot.

Cold - Jersey Mike’s Italian (undoubtedly there are better Italians, but JM is an easy, reliable choice)

Hot - Manny’s Deli (Chicago) Corned Beef & Pastrami

Fast food burger - Shack Shake

Cold.

Boar's Head Ultimate sub on multigrain with provolone from Publix
Club Supreme from Jersey Mikes

Hot
Ok haven't had one in decades, but as a Brit I figured the Chip Butty deserves a mention

Cold - leftover meatloaf with a bit of ketchup

Hot - Philly cheesesteak with melted provolone (not the Cheez Wiz of south Philly), grilled onions & mushrooms, hot and sweet peppers

Cold - Roast Beef on wheat with lettuce, oil & vinegar (preferably my homemade oil & vinegar concoction :)).

Hot - The only hot sandwich I like is Subway sweet onion chicken teriyaki, no cheese, heated, lettuce and onions.

I'm not a cheese person, and only like tomatoes in its various "pulverized" forms, not as slices. Have no idea why.

Too many to choose just one!

Cold - Beef on Weck (a western NY specialty), Lobster Roll

Hot - Montreal Smoked Meat on Rye bread, Hot turkey sandwich, French Dip with rare beef, a touch of dijon and horseradish (the best one is from the Canadian restaurant chain Joeys)

Now I am hungry, it must be time for lunch!:D

Cold - Lobster Roll
Oops, I forgot about that option. You can’t beat a real warm lobster roll (no Mayo or fillers) from a lobster pound in Maine. Toasted bun, big chunks of lobster, butter, salt & pepper, a squeeze of lemon, maybe some herbs.

A great Banh Mi is another option.
