Stations out of Gas TX

So, glad to see you made it over and back to your DMs appointment without any trouble.

Was the GasBuddy info updated and useful or mostly out of date?

Yes I made it to mother's and back. Gas tank is now almost empty so I will have to take a bus or walk until gas stations around me get a delivery. As for GasBuddy, it showed primarily no gas on my route and that was correct. One station that I saw that had gas had a line a quarter mile long.

Where are all us FIREd folks going that we immediately need to have a full tank of gas? :)

Our cars have from 1/2 tank to almost a full tank of gas. Here in the DMV we'll just wait this "crisis" out. Should zombies start appearing looking hungrily at our brains, and we need to flee, we have enough gas for 2 cars.
I would still stay home in the basement when zombie invasion starts.

It would be bad to drive aimlessly and realize zombies are everywhere and there is no sanctuary or gas within the 1000 mile range.

I've read conflicting reports about whether or not Colonial has paid the ransom to the extortionists. How much can it cost to keep a data system secure from predators? That much?

That is really the root cause issue here. My guess is they were not spending much time/effort on systems maintenance and upgrades. Most security exposures are due to outdated hardware/software."If ain't broke, don't fix it"... but when it breaks, it will be very, very expensive...

I don't watch the news as it's always about some sensational event or one that really is not. Plenty of gas stations open here and with fuel. I remember 1973 when we had the Arab oil embargo. Now that was something to go through... this is a small event and a temporary inconvenience.

Yes, today is a good day to load up on TP! We are getting low with only about 200 rolls in closet inventory.

Aye--1973 Oil embargo was not a fun time, especially with all those huge cars and gas tanks!!

Bad timing, we went on vacation in NC Monday without realizing what was to come WRT gasoline. So we were caught 370 miles from home, and very concerned. I filled our tank Tue AM at 6am no problem, drove about 95 miles, but we saw long lines developing on Tuesday. I topped off Wed AM at 6am (not proud of it), we dramatically curtailed our plans/driving on Wed (less than 20 miles) and noticed most stations out of gas on Wednesday. We came back Thursday, fortunately our car has a 500+ mile range so we would have made it anyway. We found gas without driving more than a couple miles on Tue, Wed and again Thursday when we got near home. Lucky I guess...

We're going to limit driving and stick to the house mostly for the next few days, hopefully the situation will improve over the next several days.

I did see people on nextdoor sharing which stations had gas, most noted a tanker truck had just arrived at the station.

We looked at GasBuddy but it was always hours behind actual at every station we looked at - not helpful at all during a run on gasoline.

Went to Costco this morning - S. Fla - zero line, no outages. Pulled right up to the pump (there were two together for right-side tanks).

GasBuddy has been reporting it varies dramatically from state to state. My sister in TX hasn't seen any problems either.

From what I am hearing the shortages are bad all over NC for some reason. Friends in the NC mountains report no gas anywhere.

I was out early doing some shopping this morning. All the stations I passed were operating normally and had no lines. Prices were a bit over their level of the last couple of weeks, but no gouging either.

Yeah, ha ha, all fine except for this stupid Rio Grande Valley part of TX which apparently doesn’t know which coast we are on.

While it's hard to find, "no gas anywhere" is not accurate. I bought gas on Tue, Wed & Thur and found it at several other stations when I wasn't buying. But again, it appears it will get better each day going forward, if people calm down...

No issues here either, prices are normal and I didn't see any lines when I went out. Gasbuddy as of a few minutes ago didn't mention any stations out of gas in our zip code.

That is tame compared to people catching free gasoline spraying from a broken fuel line in Mexico in Jan 2019. They were doused by the gasoline spray, as they tried to fill up buckets.

The explosion and fire that eventually happened killed around 137. It was said that the pipe break was caused by fuel thieves.

On 18 January 2019, a pipeline transporting gasoline exploded in the town of Tlahuelilpan, in the Mexican state of Hidalgo. The blast killed at least 137 people and injured dozens more. Mexican authorities blamed fuel thieves, who had illegally tapped the pipeline. The explosion was particularly deadly because large crowds of people had gathered at the scene to steal fuel. Security forces tried to persuade people to move away from the scene, but they were outnumbered and asked not to engage with civilians for fear of causing a violent confrontation.

A Honda fit is a smart people's car. You can probably squeeze 6 round trips to the same dentist from 1/3 tank of gas with it.

Too bad Honda discontinued Fit for the US and favored the compact SUV. Sometimes I can't tell if people's want determines the manufacturer decisions or the other way around.

Unfortunately I misremembered how much gas I had - I had only 1/4 of a tank.

I did the one trip to the dentist, and I did a grocery shopping at a store that was directly on the way home. Now I am staying home until the gas supply is normalized. I have pets in the house, and elderly relatives nearby, and I am saving what little gas I have left in case either of those groups has an emergency. Sad but true. I'll just pretend it's 2020 again. :(

Make sure you save enough gas to the gas station. From the news earlier although the pipeline operation was restarted, it will likely take another two days to get the gas to your local stations.

Another lockdown is right. Hopefully it will not last.

AAA in my area is doing a booming business towing cars that run out of gas, what a mess

Thanks for the reminder; there is a gas station one mile from my house. :)

I don't plan to leave the house for at least a week at this point. There is nothing I need, and I'm just going to wait until the panic-buying-and-hoarding lunatics are well out of the way and things return to some semblance of "normal" - whatever "normal" means these days.

Otherwise I might end up on the 11:00 news, or YouTube, and no one wants that! :D

Well, that time rings a bell for me.....just graduated engineering college (G.I. Bill got me through), had a nice 1965 Corvette Stingray, and a beautiful girlfriend. What memories..

No gas problems in the greater Houston, Texas area.

Not leaving home is a good move, although one does not end up on the news unless she fights for her gas.

Filled up a couple days ago at my home town BP. No lines and a tanker truck was there filling the place up. Gas station across the street same way - no lines with a tanker truck filling. Spent most of Thursday driving through Chicago far west suburbs and saw no gas stations with lines.

That would be nice. I cant say I understand any songs on the billboard in the past decade.

Can't say I disagree, but also can't help but recall Paul LeMat's character in American Graffiti (set in 1962) saying "Rock and roll has been going downhill since Buddy Holly died".
