Travel hopes 2021

Although I'm sure there'll all reopening soon, I'd love to see a link to that info. I just read this morning that Switzerland is coming out with their final announcement on June 23rd. So many various Europe reopening comments I really don't know what to believe.

Also, will the US require us to have a negative covid test in order to return to the US? That's another one of my concern's, last thing I want to do is run around Italy someplace trying to find a test. Still keeping my fingers crossed.

Here are your requested links. Hope this helps.

As far as the US return, I’m assuming even our government will come to its senses and drop the negative test requirement soon. Finally recognizing the advantage of being vaccinated.

Thanks a million, I appreciate the links. Hopefully by tomorrow at this time we'll have the official Switzerland update which I hope is like Italy's policy.

As for the US, we can only hope they drop this testing on the return for us vaccinated travelers. Luckily for us we don't go until mid September. I lot can and will change between now and then! Thanks again.

With so many Covid variants out there, I'm fine with you needing a negative Covid test before you return to the US..

I agree but the only problem for many of us is finding a test while we're traveling between various cities in a foreign country. For example, our last two nights are in Milan. That would mean I'd have to spend my only full day in Milan trying to find a test someplace. Not an easy task. Smaller cities would be almost impossible.

Taking a test at the airport might be an alternative but what happens when the test comes back positive? Certainly a can of worms.

Not that it matters. But I don’t agree. I’d like to see the link that documents the vaccines are ineffective against any variant. I don’t think that exists. Therefore irrelevant to the need for a negative test upon return to US.

The government pushes so hard for everyone to get the vaccine. There’s even some shaming that sometimes occurs among folks about it. But then they don’t recognize and reward those who have gotten it. Kinda strange.

I understand the different viewpoints on this ...I wish we knew more about the variants hopefully more understanding on this is coming soon.

Agree. Most of us have done exactly what's been asked but there's no reward for doing the right thing. I can't even fly to Hawaii without paying for a Covid test first. No matter what we do, the powers to be find a way to screw with us.

No real end in sight unfortunately and we'll be wearing mask's on planes well into next year. If the "government" really wanted to end this they'd require a vaccine or negative covid test anytime you fly on a plane. The minute you make life difficult for people they'll quickly get a shot. Not going to happen though.

Didn’t see it posted, the Canada/US border is closed for another month, until July 21st.

Concerns are around the spread of the delta variant, but for fully vaccinated people that shouldn’t be an issue.

There is pressure to open the border, but that’s not new. I suspect it’ll happen by the fall. Once it’s open, I’m going to finally try out my Nexus pass and take a weekend trip to Vancouver.

Netherlands open to US citizens tomorrow , no quarantine or test to enter from the Us . But you must have a negative test to return to the US

Okay, I’m scheduled for a trip to France in the fall. Hopefully it will be a go. I will be on A British Airways flight. I’ve never flown on them before. Any comments on BA?

The days of any real difference in airlines is long over with the exception of a few international carriers. Your only issue is the BA flight going through London first because of the current Delta variant problems and restrictions. Fall is still a long ways off though.

BA is great, particularly in Business and definitely in First Class. We are booked in Sept for Prague on BA First and really looking forward to the better service.

You can get cheaper seats on Norwegian in their "business class" but the seats do not lie flat.

Never been a real fan of Delta due to the seats, but flown many times.

Now there are better carriers for comfort, and the taxes flying BA into London are very high compared to other cities. It all boils down to connections, and for us lounge access if needed in a long connection. BA is very good for this. Some airlines are really not.

I have read the same thing about BA "fuel surcharge" (taxes) being very high.

We have had a few trips recently on American and my wife says never again. They gave us vouchers for $$$$, which I gave to the kids, as we will not use them. You pay for business class, and get treated like steerage, and those planes are mixed and older, with some very bad seats. I used to think they were OK, but recent flights sucked due to their employee attitudes.

+1 on staying away from AA and just cancelled my AA Citicard today. Terrible, hateful airline!

I flew British Airways from Miami to London last week. Except for weather delays, it was a good experience. Organized boarding, comfortable seating, decent food, and polite flight attendants.

Just got the results of my Day 5 Covid test (my third of the four required tests) and am free to roam!

Just got back home from a really nice week in Anchorage. It seems as if the travel hiatus has mellowed people a bit. Our Alaska Air flight to Seattle was delayed, and instead of two hours to make our connection to Delta, we had only 15 minutes. Much to my surprise, the other passengers (on a full flight) were great about it and got out of the way so we could get off the plane ahead of them and sprint through the terminal. Made it with only about two minutes to spare!

Alas, there was another delay later (three flights total to get home) and it turned into over 20 hours of travel yesterday. Still worth it -- Alaska is wonderful at solstice time.

Flying to Europe via UK may cause more hassles. Some EU countries currently have more restrictions on arrivals from the UK than US.

I wasn't suggesting that anyone do that. I was relating my recent British Airways experience, as requested in the post I quoted.

Nice to hear! Our Son and GS just left this morning for Anchorage. they have been looking forward to it for months--5yr old grandson really wants to pan for gold!

Probably fly American Airlines over and BA back .

Yes, fly over on AA and back on BA. I’m hoping by fall travel will be open and COVID restrictions won’t be an issue.

This trip was originally scheduled for last year. We were booked with American Airlines and they contacted us before we contacted them to refund our money. Friends, who are traveling with us, were on another airline and had a hassle to get a credit voucher…we got a cash refund.

Not sure which I detest more American or United but both reside in "ONLY IF ABSOLUTELY NO OTHER OPTION" category. Quote covers "sins" of both carriers and staff who tend to be absolutely indifferent to passenger's needs.

I'm with you, only for me United is the absolute bottom, and American is just slightly better.

I've always had outstanding luck with Delta, and Alaska Air is usually excellent as well.

Unfortunately, most of us don't really have that many options. It all depends on which carriers serve your nearby airports, and which of them go to your destination.

Yup. Living in Dallas area it’s hard to avoid AA. I just embrace the suck.
