Just had to quickly share with everyone - we became millionaires this week! NW hit $1.03m as of today! Thank you to everyone here for all of the great wisdom, keep sharing!

Congrats! Hitting the $1 M mark is exciting. And you’ll be surprised how fast it grows from here.

@ATXFIRE2034 Congratulations!

Great job! Keep saving though, $1M doesn't go as far as it used to.

$1M doesn't go as far as it used to.

I'm not quite sure what the point of that statement is, other than to remind us that inflation exists. I mean $10M, or $100M, or any sum you can think of, don't go as far as they used to either!

That's exactly the point...some people don't think about the erosive costs of inflation over long periods. My statement was to have the OP think about that. Take any item you commonly buy today (or even your entire annual budget), apply a future value formula to it over 30 years, and THEN decide if $1M will be enough. I could be wrong, but I'd venture to say that unless you've been working long enough through periods of inflation to see how it can erode purchasing power, it's hard to fathom it. Many young people have NEVER experienced high inflation such as what we had in the early 1980s.

When I was growing up in Cincinnati, a radio station had a contest where they gave away a $1M prize. The 26 year old woman who won it was someone I went to high school with. The news media swarmed her house and wanted interviews, she was RICH! Today if you win $1M, and pay the taxes, you'll have enough left to buy a nice house and a car, but maybe not much else.

Fair enough, but we recently had a thread about whether $1M is enough to retire on. I figured we were just keeping it simple here, and congratulating OP on amassing what, after all, is *still* a significant sum of money.

Congrats! The first million is definitely the toughest!

Congrats and now onward to the 2nd million.

Very cool. Our first took us 15 years. We just (in spite of ourselves) hit 2 in the past 6.5 years, just this month.

Advice here has definitely helped.

I appreciate the congratulations and agree the journey is far from over. But if you don’t celebrate the milestones along the way you’re just waiting for the end which doesn’t seem like much fun to me. We have a special group here with common / shared interests and when I hit this milestone I thought of you all. Happy holidays everyone!

This year I hit 1m NW sometime in three months (Sept, Nov, and Dec.) and lower than that in most of the later part of the year. Having all stock portfolio gives me the roller coaster ride that I can't refuse!

If things are moving at constant and steady pace. I am looking at 2025 before hitting 2m NW. By then with inflation the true buying power might be around $1.5m in today's dollars.

Congratulations and it is great to read about this. Heres wishing you many
more $! And I agree, your next mil will be easier.

Congratulations!! The first million is the hardest as others have said. The second and third each come a little easier. Before you know it you’ll see your net worth grow by a million in one year or less! Keep on investing!

I can't imagine. We're over 3M now but I don't see that happening anytime soon.

We hit $3M in 2012, and now we’re over $8M invested in stocks/bonds and nearly $11M including real estate. This year our stocks alone have increased $1.25M. It can happen.
