Tax software functionality and deals

Hmm getting close to that time for Fidelity.

I've got my calendar marked to buy TurboTax on Amazon the day after Xmas, 12/26.

I don't remember why, I'm retired... ;)

Can anyone tell me how we find out who our Fidelity rep is? Thanks.

Thanks for the info. Looks like we must not have a rep.

They contacted me, and I agreed to speak with them. I told them I am DYI and he respected that, and didn't try to hard sell me. After this meeting, my page updated with the rep's information.

It will be interesting to see if I passed the cut to get offered the tax software.

reminder to install $79.99 TT Home and Business.

My Fidelity free TurboTax offer just popped up this morning. Thanks Fidelity!

Free TurboTax from Fidelity

I thought there was a newer thread on this topic but I didn't find it. The thread I found was too old and wouldn't accept replies.

I saw the free TurboTax offer on my Fidelity summary screen this morning but I don't seem to be able to find the path to a downloadable version. I know this has been a bit of an issue in the past but I've always been able to find my way to the download. Is it possible that they are only offering the online version this year? Has anyone else been able to get the download?

Same as others, the free TurboTax Premier offer finally appeared on my Fidelity Home page this morning. As in the past, they try to suck you into the online version. If instead, you want to download the CD/desktop version, follow these instructions:

On the first Intuit screen you come to, don't click any of the 4 options. Instead, scroll down until you see, in very small print, "TurboTax CD/download also available." Click the button that says, "See Products." Now, click the "Buy Now" button under Premier. At that point, select your OS, and then you can purchase Premier for $0 and download the desktop version. I had to login to my Intuit account and it sent a 2FA code. It also asked to confirm my phone number and billing/shipping info. But then it gives you the License Code and a button to click for the download.

Thanks Cobra9777,

The offer has now appeared on my account too but I bet I’d have stumbled trying to find a downloadable version. Your summary helps!

Taxact is now offering 20% off their downloadable version premier ($103 vs $129). I need premier to do K-1s.

Whew, thank for the instructions. I got there - TurboTax is "locked and loaded" for 2021, so to speak

At present, we are using the "What If" in the FORMS section of Turbo Tax Premier 2020 for 'Estimating the 2021 income & taxes'.
We plan to buy Turbo Tax early next year as all the updates will be in by then.

Would buying Turbo Tax now as opposed to next year give us any advantage in firming up the year's income & taxes ??

I'm not seeing the "also available" link.

I think there may have been similar issues previous years...

Is that supposed to an ON Sale Day?
I've waiting for Sam's to drop the price $10.

For those of you that can't find the download link, this seems to be the URL to access:

https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/cd-download/

You'll need to follow the link from Fido first (to set cookies in your browser), and then access that URL.

Thanks, I had to go that route.
Link from Fido, then enter TT username/password, then paste that URL into the browser and it took me to the free download page.

Slight differences each year, and it has never been really intuitive, but it's working.

I have been using Dinkytown for tax planning. I have a fairly simple, tax form but I have LTCLs, Dividends and interest and IRA withdrawals. But it has a lot of inputs in the drop downs.

Dinkytown is very useful for planning and it’s easy to use. The hard part falls on the individual to keep good records so the inputs are valid.

Probably not. I bought it early this year because we wanted to figure out how much my parents should withdraw from their IRA to get the most advantage of their memory care medical deduction. https://www.irscalculators.com/tax-calculator gave us the same numbers, and is easier to quickly change numbers. I bought it earlier for myself another year for some change in my situation, maybe it was the first year of the increase std deduction, and found the same thing. So I won't be in a hurry to buy next year.

On the other hand, saving $10 or $20 to try to get the very best deal isn't worth all that much to me, so if in doubt I'll just buy it when I want it again next time.
