I think there are something like 25k total answers in the game, so you have only a 1% boost with that. Not gonna get many birdies!

Today was 4/6. I impressed myself in that try 1 was a total strikeout, and try 2 a hit on just one letter, but in the right location, importantly.

I may not leave many responses here going forward, because it's clogging up my 'Find All Posts,' which I use to follow up on threads I've posted in, but I will continue to be here in virtual Wordle spirit. It's a fun way to start the morning, and I only got started doing them because of this thread.

Just do a search on Wordle solutions, there are tons. But be careful, as some include future answers - I know I don’t want to see those.

Actually more than 10% now. A few sources below. There are 12-13,000 words you can enter/try, but only 2315 that are actual solutions - the others are presumably relatively obscure. But TBH it’s already a little unwieldy to look through 285 answers every day, I’m too lazy…

Each daily game uses a word from a randomly ordered list of 2,315 words (out of the approximate 12,000 five-letter words in the English language)

While there are close to 13,000 possible 5-letter words that are acceptable in the Wordle design (not excluding words with unique letters), the developer of Wordle, Josh Wardle, has further narrowed down the girth of the solution word list to a selection of 2,315 “eligible” words. The selection criteria have also led to the exclusion of rare words from the list of eligible words. All in all, the installation of such a curated word list as the foundation of the game points to the possibility of successfully devising a Wordle strategy that could work out in favor of keeping up an unbroken winning streak.

Slightly cheaty (compared with keeping track of just your own solutions over time).

Cheating at online word games is a gray area. For example, I couldn't possibly complete a NYT crossword without Googling a few answers (e.g. "Rapper who dropped album in 2001 with song "XYZ"). But a crossword puzzle competition probably wouldn't even allow search engines.

(I would consider it cheating to use one of the"crossword solution" sites...I'd rather leave the puzzle undone).

At any rate, it seems there is high demand for resources to allow people to cheat at word games. When researching Waffle to see if there is a strategy for when and what to swap, I came across one site that encouraged players to use word-unscrambling tools, of which there are many.

After thinking about it more, I deleted the list. I let the former engineer in me attempt to spoil the fun. Too much bother to review 285 words (and counting) daily to play anyway, I’ll just rely on what brain cells I have remaining… so I compete with DW on her terms. I don’t want to hear ‘yeah but you cheated every day.’

This balanced out my 2 from yesterday. On one try I used a plural of a word and this is not a good strategy.

I find this stat more interesting than day-to-day, but that's just me:

31MARCH2022 = 72 played ( 1 loss)... one or two wins on a different device not included, all HARD MODE. No "cheating", other than occasionally verifying if one of my elimination attempt words was a valid scrabble word or spelled correctly...

Having more '"3's" than "5's" I think is a pretty good metric?
