Does anyone else find Dr Rick annoying?

I find the commercials funny, ya gotta be able one to laugh at yourself (or your "group") :). But they not inspire me to research or buy Progressive Insurance.

What’s funny is I am a Progressive customer and they are poking fun at me, but I laugh all the way to the bank because my broker shopped our insurance and Progressive saved me a bunch of money.

We never watch TV. Problem solved.

We do not watch TV either. But my curiosity got the best of me.

And I looked on YouTube and found a slew of Dr. Rick commercial snippets there. Watched one, and did not find it amusing (I think that's their intention). Did not bother me either.

I like the progressive insurance commercials. I haven’t seen the voicemail one but I laughed every time at the first generation of these commercials.
You woke up early, no one cares. [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

I’ve been watching baseball and recently noticed the Johnny Walker commercial. I looked up when they were playing Aerosmith- Walk this Way. Loved it! A compilation of songs with “walk” in them.
And I for sure know what they are advertising.

Guess I’m in the minority.
I find Dr. Rick hilarious!

+1. I think Dr Rick segments clever and funny. I look forward to them.

Must say that I'm amazed that some take it so seriously as to be offended but nowadays that seems to be the national pastime.

And there is the anti TV elite.

All commercials are annoying. I don't watch or listen to any of them. On the rare occasion that I watch live tv, I mute and use the time for something else.

my wife is home during the day and, among other things, loves game shows. those are just about the only commercials she/we see. we record all of our evening shows so we can FF through the commercials.

I found myself portrayed in Dr. Rick's commercial.

It's very very rare, but I've told the boss at some place about their really great employee.

So I guess the rule is, if some employee is really really great, make sure you don't tell the boss what a great employee they have. Let the employee take the same layoff/fire chance as everyone else...

At least I know why our phone message kills the scammer phone calls now. They've watched Dr. Rick and don't leave a message

They think we will call back since cell phones can see the number, but we have a land line

The one commercial I like (and I think it is Liberty Mutual) is the one where they baldly announce "Research shows people remember commercials showing young people having a good time," and proceed to depict a pool party while chanting "young people ... good times ... INSURANCE!" It sends up the advertising industry AND the audience.

As for Dr. Rich, I admit, although I have my airplane tickets on an app on my phone, I do stick paper copies in a handy place if I can, as backup. I've seen phones fail, I've seen airline company equipment give problems. If Dr. Rick doesn't know this, then I can teach him a thing or two!

None of them bother me, I enjoy the laughs. DW thinks the found "Scotch Egg" in the freezer is hilarious.

I'm slightly annoyed by the ageism, but hey, it is a joke. I would like to see Consumer Cellular make fun of kids with Skull Candy huge headphones. Great idea!

And isn't everyone hoping Flo and John Hamm get together?

At least these commercials spread the idiots among many people and put the wise person as Dr. Rick. Most annoying to me is that most "idiots" in commercials today are some guy, and every "wise" person is some young girl. Guess we need to offend the right people. It's OK, I can take it. I'm bald and Polish too. Give it to me!

Now I'm off to munch on my Fritos. I've been eating them since 1967 after seeing Mel Blanc's "Frito Bandito" commercial. Oh boy...

BTW, my idea for the ultimate parody commercial would be for someone to make fun of all the drug commercials that always show old people driving around in classic convertibles. There's a lot of room for creativity there.

Besides, many of us are Boomers. We have been the center of advertisers' attention all our lives. And we still are, at least on television. They sure aren't trying to appeal to young people with those ads. And when I walk into a grocery store, the Muzak is from 50 years ago. Generation Z can try, but they can't dethrone us until we're all gone.

I'm guessing it's different on TikTok, but I don't care.

I consider myself in the early stages of geezerhood but when I first started seeing the commercials I found them hilarious because I still have clear memories of my parents and this seemed spot on, in a humorous way.

Now, they're just annoying commercials but not because of the subject matter - but because of the repetition of seeing the same commercial over and over again. Particularly bad on some streaming services...

Cheers

I don't know if it has to do with age/generation gaps or familiarity with tech, but when someone starts talking about something that is only available on standard broadcast or cable TV it takes me a few seconds to realize what they are talking about. Haven't watched 'regular' TV for 10 years. It was 20 years ago when I first started using TiVO primarily so I could record something and watch it later, so I could skip commercials. If a commercial has aired since then, I've never seen it (not counting some SuperBowl commercials, which I only watched after the fact)

Yes! I actually watched this commercial the first 25 times I saw it because it's so much fun. It starts off with a bunch of sullen looking 20 year olds standing around a pool. The colors are drab and all washed out until the voice over mentions Liberty Mutual whereupon the production team cranks up the color saturation and the kids come alive with activity. Frolicking in the pool, playing air guitar, etc. It ends when one young man jumps off the diving board, executing a front somersault just as another guy on the side of the pool flings his cell phone at the jumper. Somersault guy expertly catches the cell phone in his hand, its screen showing the Liberty Mutual logo, just before he plunges into the water.

Doesn't bother me at all. When a commercial comes on I usually take that time to go powder my nose or cruise the net.

Same here.

Stream only. Don’t watch Hulu. Occasionally watch free YouTube videos and a few ads pop up.

The anti TV-ers now spend eighteen hours a day staring at a tiny screen in their hand watching cat videos instead.

Nah. They spend time surfing retirement forums and read retirement and financial blogs, and exchange ideas regarding fixed income investing. ;)

I mute all commercials, but somehow I accidentally heard one of these. It's the only commercial I watch on purpose. They're not all funny, but I find most of them amusing.

It reminds me of a facebook group I subscribe to on the history of my area. The moderator frequently updates the group cover photo by using her phone to take a picture of something on her iPad.

It's very very rare, but I've told the boss at some place about their really great employee...

i've done the same and also only when the service/serrver has been outstanding. TV can make fun of that and me all they want, it bothers me not.

Yep.

If streaming: Commercial comes on. Mute button gets pressed. Phone gets picked up. Sports scoreboards are checked, etc.

If watching cable: (I've DVR'ed anything I watch on cable, which isn't much.) Commercial comes on. Fast forward is pressed.

Who is this Dr Rick, what is TV?
