What was your happiest moment today?

Last night, our two sons together in one place sitting on our patio with the pool open and the lights on. One lives out of town and it was so nice to be together.

(Yesterday) DGS age 6 and DS came to visit and decided to spend the night for fun.
DGS has had a loose tooth, but has been afraid to wiggle it. He let me check it and it was pretty loose. And, He actually let Dad pull it! I was pretty proud of him.
Secretly gave DS some old, but shiny, dollar coins I had to place under his pillow from the Tooth Fairy.
So Fun being a Grandma.

My wife and I both have the Kindle paperwhites & really like them. I also have the regular Kindle which works but the paperwhite is so much better. If you don't already know there are some sites that you can go to and download free books, some are really good-- others meh-- but they are free. I hope you have many enjoyable hours of reading.:)

Thanks! I'm a believer in free stuff.

I splurged (by my definition) on the Kindle Paperwhite Signature, and I couldn't be happier.

We had light-to-moderate rain falling all day yesterday, and I read for six hours straight on the Kindle. Oh happy day.

I had eschewed (nay, scoffed at!) ebooks for years. Now I am a complete convert. It turns out you can teach an old dog new tricks! :D

Happy reading to you too.

My happiest moment was last night's victory over the Yankees at Fenway Park, in the bottom of the tenth inning!

Yep, that's a great one - I love it when ANYONE beats the Yankees, especially Boston or Detroit. I sure wish it was happening more this season!

A fantastic day!

Wow! Today was a day FULL of happy moments!

1) I had a chance to work with all three of my siblings today completing several jobs around my parents' home to make life safer & more convenient for them (i.e., for my aging parents). It was a very productive day, and it occurred to me that this was the first time I had worked together with my siblings in over 50 years.

2) I sat together on the porch with my dad enjoying the beautiful fall colors after working together to straighten a small tree in the front yard. We had a really great conversation together. That was a highlight for me - I don't know how many more chances we'll get to make memories like that.

3) DW & I enjoyed a wonderful meal out with my parents tonight. To make it even better, we were waited on by a very friendly and efficient college guy who did everything he could to make it a great dining experience. I very much enjoyed giving him an "over the top" tip.

4) And finally, the Yankees were CRUSHED tonight by the Houston Astros, 5-0 - in front of all those Yankee fans at Yankee Stadium! Ahhhhh - absolutely the icing on the cake!

Had a wonderful evening out last night with my brother and daughter, went to a fun dinner venue, then out for dessert elsewhere.
Others in the family couldn't make it, so it was just us odd group of three. It was fun for DD to be with her uncle 1-1.

Heh, heh, I'm a day late in reporting, but finally got to meet with our best friends on the Island yesterday for a beautiful lunch. Additionally, good friends who left the Islands 3 years ago were back visiting this week. Friends and family are where it's at when it comes to being happy. Keep all the "stuff" and give me my "peeps" any day. YMMV

Absolutely! I'm glad you had a great time, Koolau.

I'm simple. When my number at the DMV came up after sitting 45 minutes to renew my tags, I was thrilled.

Don't they let you renew online? Or do you prefer the thrill of seeing your number come up?

DGS, age 7, spent the night. Watched lego building masters on TV, Grandpa fixed steak and potatoes for dinner, with strawberries and dough nut holes for dessert (DGS choice).
DS came this am to take him to a basketball game. We would have gone, but it is an hour away! And 7 year olds only play about 30 minute games. Why leagues with players that young are so far away, I am not sure. It is a private religious league, which may be the reason.
Love my Grandma time, and so blessed to have all three of them nearby.

My mom died and left a nice chunk of cash to a friend and her daughter. They used to get together with mom for lunch or shopping, and when mom stopped driving they'd make the 35-45 minute drive to pick her up and take her out. I could hardly wait to tell them about the money—they're not too well-off so it's a significant sum for them—but I had to hold off until everything was in order.

I finally got to call the friend and tell her. She was speechless and started crying. It was one of the best moments I've had all year!

Condolences on the loss of your Mom, but what a wonderful gift you were a part of!

That's a great (albeit bittersweet) story. Kudos to you and your mom.:)

Thank you, mom was 93 and had been ready to go for a couple years. The end came fairly quickly. A trip to the ER for what seemed like dehydration or a UTI, then her organs started failing and without much conscious suffering she was gone in five days. We should all be so lucky.

No daily happy moments since Halloween?? Inconceivable!

Anyway, my happy moment today: I worked as an election judge, and payment for the work was not supposed to go out until February. I received a notice yesterday that the county had worked to speed up payment processing, and payments had been mailed out. Today I received the check. Not a lot of money, but I am never going to complain about getting money sooner than expected, even if it means more taxes to pay :D.

Well happiness is always relative. My flight was delayed 3 hours and I’m happy it arrived. That means I can catch the plane from DFW to CDG.

I love that you posted in this thread. Your mom now knows “the secret”. The relief when I hoped that dad would join my mom, and his best friend, who had died a few months before, wherever we go when we leave this life, gave me peace. I told him, in his unconscious state, that he could go on and that we would be fine. His last breath occurred within 3-5 minutes after I held his hand, kissed him and told him it was OK.

Today was a peaceful day. More than 12 years since dad’s passing. My presents are wrapped, underneath the tree. Christmas cards sent. DH playing a musical tonight. DS having his Saturday night fun. My sister vacationing jn Mexico. Me? Enjoying peace and quiet in my delightful home.

Went out to the boat today five days after I finished up the automatic bilge pump installation on the forward pump where the water is deepest and removed the deck plate to find 2 inches of water in the bilge.

The "happy part"?

The pump started right after I put the deck plate down, I went outside and heard and saw the water pumped out, the pump shut off and I went back inside and saw an inch of water in the bilge. Yeah Baby! On at 2 inches, off at 1 inch, just like the spec on the switch - :)

It's always wonderful to find stuff working just like it's supposed to. No more worries about the boat sinking at the dock. This all started about a month ago when I found about a foot of water in the bilge and no pumps working on automatic. I also found the source, leaking shaft packing glands which will be the next item to address.

Last evening DH and I went for a drive to look at Christmas Lights and decorations.
Today I will be starting to wrap the gifts for kids and grandkids, everyone will be here on Friday, so they can have their own family celebration at their homes on Christmas Day.
We are having Beef Tenderloin for dinner this year again. It was a hit last time, and a nice change from Ham or Turkey.

I'm so proud of DW. She too finished all 250 cards, and she organized all the kids and GKs shopping and packing (heh, heh, I drove and taped packages and did the USPS run, etc.) She finished all the checks (always the right color - even if not always the right size:facepalm:) We are DONE! That's a happy feeling indeed.

Two major good things. I preached the sermon at church this morning. I have a Lay Preaching License in the Episcopal Church, which involved seminary classes and review by the Diocesan Commission on Ministry. I really enjoy the process of developing a sermon even though it's hard work, and I got more favorable feedback than usual (beyond the polite "Nice sermon").

And DS has made a final decision on two job offers for an entry-level actuarial position after passing two actuarial exams this year (no mean feat with pass ratios around 40% and his last college math class about 15 years ago). He's been a Liability Claims Adjuster but got tired of dealing with the sleaze of the plaintiff's bar. He'd accepted a remote position from a well-regarded company but last week his current employer finally came through with an offer- at an increase over his current salary! He un-accepted the first one (which I don't think will burn any major bridges) and will stay with the current employer. I'm very glad he chose that one. I'm a retired actuary and I hope that someday after he passes enough exams to become an accredited actuary I'll be there at the ceremony!

Got my "shot" in the back yesterday and today is the first day in a year that my back didn't hurt. Keeping my fingers crossed that it lasts.

Our 11yr.old DGD came over to house yesterday to help DW bake. They made Christmas cookies, peanut butter balls, teacakes from my Grandmothers recepe, fudge, chocolate covered pretzels,& cornflake candy. Then last evening we rode up to Chattanooga,to a neighborhood we heard about that had a Christmas light show that was really beautiful. We then stopped on our way back home for BBQ. I love being with family like this. We had already planned on taking DGD to see the lights but I called DD and ask her if they would come along with us too. She initially said no she was too busy but I ask her if she remembered when we carried her to see lights as as a kid? She said yes it was magical, so I then said it still is for an 11 year old and her old parents as well. A guilt trip? Mabey but it worked and we all went together and enjoyed it. I hope everyone here has a great Christmas weekend and stays safe!
