Outdoor Cameras

Another vote for Wyze. I have 9 of them, 4 of which are outdoor under the eaves. They work great.

Ronstar, I see I can get 2 Wyze Cam v3 and two SD cards for 98$ on Amazon.

Do you have any subscription or just use your Wyze App on your phone. I don't care to have a monthly bill etc.

Thanks Ron.

That's a good price to include a couple of sd cards.

Just got the subscription for 1 camera. But I don't really need the subscription. The phone app is good enough for me.

One thing to consider is how close you have a receptacle to power the camera. I had to get Wyze extension cords, and in a couple of cases had to run some electric lines in the attic to get to the camera locations.

Wyze inside and out. Easy setup. I use indoor cameras for outdoor monitoring. As long as they are protected from the elements (under an overhang) they work well....if they fail, well, $25 gets me a new one.

I have a subscription and the cloud recording is great.

Thanks so much again for all your help and direction. Ordered the kit of two.

You might consider the Wyze outdoor cam. There’s a powered base station and a battery operated cam. It costs more but lets you place the cam away from power. I have one and the battery lasts maybe six month on a charge, though I only view it on occasion, not all the time.

One more question the Wyze camera. Is there a setting that will minimize the data used for the camera? I don't have unlimited internet option with my provider so I don't want to run continuously and just wondering if I can just read the card after removing it.

Do I have to use any internet time to use the camera??

I think they use just a little, but never really measured.

How much internet are you allowed ?

You can set if you want all day or monitoring just at certain times. You only use data when you log in and 1)see what is going on live and 2) see what has been recorded and 3) if it does record something, it will be sending that to the cloud.

If you don't want to record, you'd only use data when viewing.

I would have to look but so not sure on how much we get. We do go over at times.

marko>>> Thanks and I was thinking I could pull SD card and look at it also on a reader.

This reddit column has a fellow that says his 2 camera's in a remote location use about 0.5 G per month.

It may mean that Eufy camera's would be better for you. They are 2K and I don't pay for cloud storage, the data is stored on the card only. Unless Eufy is being really generous and storing the data for everyone.

Now there must be some alert info sent to Eufy servers about the alert I get as it can list them all.
When I watch a video, it says it's decrypting it from local storage, but I don't know if it goes through their servers.

Yes, if you only use an SD card you data usage would be minimal.

Thanks so much for all your help I really do appreciate it very much.

We pay 20 dollars month and .20¢ a GB for internet.

On each Wyze camera through the app on the top left side of the viewing screen you can set the resolution to HD, SD, or 360p. I would assume setting it to a lower resolution would save data.

Outstanding advice! I thank you very much. The frugal disease is hard to cure. Lol

I like the RING cameras with solar panels. I do not plug them into AC...and I have them in trees pointed TOWARDS my house rather than on the house looking away.

I pay $10/month or $100/year to have RING save my recordings which is important if you need evidence of someone near your house. I have 5 units, one for each side of the house as well as the doorbell. I bought refurbished cameras on sale at amazon or woot.com for $45 each and the solar panel for $22 each.

I went the whole Ring route for alarm system, freeze sensor, water sensor and am up to a few cameras now (actually on 2 houses). Works great, super simple to install and only one app to look at with a great history of activity. Great peace of mind when we are away for extended periods.

Do not believe security is worth being OVER frugal on.

The Ring is still FAR FAR cheaper than ADT and multiple other major players. Right now, The Ring has a big Memorial Day sale.

Flood light cameras are down to $129.99. Not needed for security system. Other discounts on major parts (e g. Hub, smart doorbell, etc...)

I just got the cameras and now having some trouble getting setup. It keeps saying ready to connect and it is connected with a push of the setup button. Will try later.

What cameras did you get?

I have Wyze and Arlo cameras. The Arlo system was the more expensive but I find the Wyze cameras more versatile and useful. The Arlo cameras have the benefit of not having to be plugged in and being more weather resistant.

WYZE Cam 3V

Can someone help me it keeps saying not connected. I'm not sure what the WIFI network is. I did find the SSID name on router and mixture of numbers and letters. Is that the name they are looking for?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

yes.
unless somebody changed it that is the SSID
The password may be there too.
do you use the wifi for your phone?

I've been using Arlo for 10 years now, and have been quite satisfied. The cameras can be a little pricey, up to $200 each, plus you need to pay a monthly video storage cloud fee. The fee varies depending on how long you want your videos saved - 30 days, 6 months, etc.. The cameras are motion-activated, so you don't end up with hours of still video in the cloud. The cameras also have a strong motion-activated light that can scare intruders of all kinds.

The Arlo network is easy to install. You just connect the Arlo router to your internet/wi-fi router, and you can add as many cameras to your system as you want (up to 255 at least).
