Woke up to moisture on the ground and slight drizzle continuing, temp a wonderfully cool 58.
I will take it all gladly right now. I have windows open and such glorious fresh air entering the house!

61st consecutive day at 101F+ with our closest weather sensor (about two blocks away). Sitting at 105F right now (peaked at 106.5F today) when our historical average in our part of Central Texas for September 6th is 93F.

Oh, and no rain for the first 6 days of September (historical average is 3.96").

For July, we received 0.09" (historical average is 2.2").

For August, we received 0.15"(historical average is 2.65").

We hit 103 today in east/central Texas... In the last week we had a few days that were just in the mid 90's. It was nice. About 10 days ago we got about an inch of rain too. First rain in well over a month. According to the long range forecast, after this week we should be done with the 100's for the year. I hope so!

It has cooled down lately here in New Orleans, with no more 3 digit high temperatures. Also, we have been having occasional rain, usually just a little but a few days ago we had two and a half inches! The grass in my back yard loved the rain and grew 3-4 inches overnight. This weather is delightful. Adding frosting to the cake, currently Hurricane Lee is not expected to head this way.

Looks like it may just curve to the north in a few days. Good for you and hopefully Florida and the EC too!

105 in DFW today, continuing our triple-digit days this summer to 51 days. In 5th place for most triple days in a DFW summer. Records go back 125 years. Tomorrow forecast is 105-106, Friday 106-08. Will tie for 4th place tomorrow, will take it Friday.

At 7:30 PM today the spare power available was only 1,175 MW, dipping below 1,000 MW spare starts rolling blackouts. Real close this evening! Wind was lower than usual, and solar was falling off steeply as the sun slants down. Heard it said that we are just 2 or 3 gas or coal plants going off-line, from disaster. Old plants.

Although the ERCOT grid, which covers about 90% of Texas, is independent (a bad idea, I think), it does draw some DC power from two other grids, 200 MW and 600 MW. Except for morning, it maxes out those two interties every day when it's hot.

Even though the "will" in Texas isn't there to do so, I don't know if our independent Texas system frequency stability would be good enough to attach to the synchronous grids across the US via the usual AC interties. A DC intertie is expensive, equipment-wise, but removes the synchronization problem between grids.

Yep, shooting all the way up from mid 50s to the low 70s today, here in the heart land. I'm guessing the AC won't even come on. Heh, heh, DW ran the electric heater for her shower. I gallantly let her go first and was rewarded with a toasty bathroom for my shower.

We're enjoying a "cold snap" here, with a current temperature of 73° and 86% RH. A brief storm went through and dropped enough water to make the back porch wet but that's about it.

Oh, and I read that a different almanac, The Old Farmer's Almanac, has now also forecast a cold and snowy winter for us. Good thing I tuned up the snow blower last spring. Changed the oil, and oiled and greased all that needed oiling and greasing, and waxed it. Waxing it is not as geeky as it sounds, a lot of guys do that because it makes the snow slide right off. So come wintertime y'all might be regarding this summer with fond memories. If the snow does come I'll be sure to post pictures.

106 degrees in my neighborhood and 108 forecast for tomorrow. Hopefully the cooldown will begin over the weekend and continue next week. What an awful summer this has been.

Well, I was going to post with my sympathies for you Texans who are still suffering with ferociously hot temperatures, over 100F. Things have really cooled down here during the past week. So, I went to wunderground dot com to see what our high was here, today.

102F? What happened? That's insane. Oh well. Guess you can tell that my AC is keeping up nicely, and I haven't gone out today.

Meanwhile, I saw a warning that there is a storm on Lake Ponchartrain (just a few blocks north of us), coming our way with 50 kt (=57mph) winds. Wow! Didn't expect that.

106 F right now in The Woodlands area.

, same here, midway between your locations.

Long range forecast says by this time next week the highs will be in the upper 80's. I'M SURE!

I'm getting the generator ready just in case. 1st priority is power for the TV. (NFL season starts tonight) Second priority is the AC.

From the Austin-American Statesman today: (Blue text below)

the Electric Reliability Council of Texas entered level two of its emergency operations, skipping over level one on Wednesday night. KUT reported that this is the closest the Texas grid has come to issuing blackouts since the deadly February 2021 winter storm. ERCOT called for another conservation notice 5-9 p.m. Thursday.

Looks like the critical period is going to be between 7:30pm and 8:30pm, again tonight.

Now they're saying the winds in that storm are going to be over 70 mph and we have tornado warnings.

I brought in the one little table on my patio that I bring in for hurricanes. Nothing else in my yard that can be blown around; I've lived in hurricane country too long to deal with stuff like that. Dark as night, thunder booming, hairs on the back of one's neck standing on end, hope we at least get a couple of inches of rain out of this. :D

I’m just looking forward to highs in the upper 90s, in about a week maybe.

The Canadian smoke is back today. Not too unpleasant but very strange.

There has been little to no wind and solar also not doing the job. I'm not sure why solar would be less than expected, but maybe angle of sun is starting to change.

Low to mid-70s (daytime high) going into mid-September. 50s-low 60s at night. I can't complain in IL.

Just bloody awful. Closest weather sensor is at 109F right now. Next closest sensor and the official city reading is at 107F. On a date when historically we average 92F for a high (for perspective). We haven't had daily highs below 101F since the first week of July. :banghead:
