Tax prep software offers

Just downloaded TurboTax and the Dividends section will not be available until December 21...and my state (SC) will not be available until December 2...

Maybe I should have just waited because I need both of those to do my year end estimates?

I did year-end estimates by copying over 2022 and updating with 2023 estimated info. Certainly not perfect but I know what you mean- Roth conversions have to be made by 12/31 so not having the right forms till after 1/1 isn't helpful.

As I said upthread, I'd ALMOST be willing to pay for a subscription if a provider could supply a current-year (in this case, 2023) version early in the year and update it throughout the year as changes to the tax laws, brackets, etc. are made.

Similar here. I bought it last week and found the main section I want/need won't be available until Dec 7th.

Thanks. I use Turbo Tax for myself but I have a few friends and family so I need more electronic files. So, I buy this and do the simple ones on H&R Block. Good to get it cheap.

Anyone seen a deal on H&R Block Fed+state deluxe yet?
I bought it on Newegg, this morning. Deluxe + 1 state. Price was $49.99 less $25 instant coupon. Downloaded and activated within a couple of minutes.

About $2.50 more than they offered it a year ago. But, H&R Block raised their base price by $5, so still a good deal.

EDITED TO ADD: Goodness, I just realized I have an unused New Egg gift card... this is definitely a no-brainer for me .

Double checked at Amazon: regular price for H&R Block. H&R Block is not discounting on it's Amazon pages. Over to Newegg. Paid. Downloaded. Installed. (same as last year)

Thanks for the post.:flowers:

Just ordered today, 11/23. $ 24.99. Nice price:dance:
I think Amazon was around $35, today.

FYI: After Credit Card purchase, received email confirmation.
Then received 2nd email. Said "Digital purchase" Gave me "Product Key", for digital download.

Yes, thanks, I also got the block deal. $20 for me, since Washington has no state tax.

Thanks for the link! I purchased and downloaded the Deluxe version (without state), $21.59 with tax.

I'll look into the free options next year, but this year is kind of a messy transition year with IRA contributions, W2 income, starting a pension, etc.

I have been an H & R Block fan for several years. I just tried FreeTaxUSA because of the lower cost of filing my state return online. The only thing FreeTaxUSA doesn't offer is electronic downloads of 1099s although they can import my last H & R Block return via a PDF - that went smoothly. 1099 downloads is not a big deal for me. They have 2023 Federal tax updates now.

Bye bye H & R Block..

H&R Block Premium & Business 2023 is $44.99 on amazon. I bought it. I'm still enrolled in the irrational cheapskate club. :D

Intuit is asking $10 more for TurboTax Deluxe Federal & State 2023 than last year so I'm holding out for a better deal.

Amazon price dropped $10 to $45.99 so I bought it. I'll have to purchase a few extra states in January.

Very good price on TT23 on Amazon this morning, but they will do better by offering a low price AND a $10 Amazon gift card to those who are patient. Can’t start taxes yet anyway.

HRB Deluxe+State $24.99 on Amazon, then a $2 coupon at checkout, so $22.99.

Agree. $45 is close enough so I bought it. No need to get greedy but if they later offer it for $45;with a $10 gift card I'm the chump.

Last year they did the gift card on the Saturday after Black Friday.

I think I’m going to wait. If I lose out and the don’t get the gift card, I’ll watch for it at Costco.

Just checked Costco. It’s 45.99 for deluxe with State. Plus, they have a $10 offer for in program use. So you can use the $10 to offset some of the cost of filing your State. That’s a pretty good deal. I’m going to get it because I’ve started paying to file my state. I don’t like it, but it’s obviously more convenient and I like the security of e-filing versus printing and mailing. So for $10 instead of the normal $20, it’s even more easy to justify.
