Inauguration Photo Thread

We didn't use the porta potties. The ones toward the Capitol were not open yet. There didn't seem to be long lines at the ones down by the concert. I'm not drinking any coffee tomorrow -- no way I am loosing a spot to go to the John.

Something very salty like potato chips or corn chips will help, as well as not drinking anything at all after dinner tonight. Take it from someone who was often the only female oceanographer, on day trips taken on various vessels too small to have a head.

Chips, huh. Sounds like a good breakfast.

Careful now...Depends on how badly you need to go.;)
It's going to be pretty cold. Maybe I should wear a wetsuit under my clothes -- I have self warmed my wet suit once or twice.

Thanks for posting the pictures. Very interesting and makes me wonder why I did not consider going. It will be historic.

I can't wait to see the next batch! Your photos are really good and make me feel like I'm there too.

donheff, have a great time tomorrow and know many of us will be with you in spirit. My mother's coming by so we can share the moment together. I've got the champagne chillin' and will watch for you on CNN. Can't wait to see your new pics!

Like the pics.

I do think this inauguration is a bit overdone, I don't remember this level or pomp and cimcumstance in American history. Seems a bit like the Emmys or Golden Globes to me. While I do appreciated the historical significance one would think we are coronating a king. Even electing a new pope pales in comparison.........:(

So, here's the deal. I got a couple of tickets for up front right behind the seats. So, naturally, I have to give one to DW and one to Sharon (visiting from Maui). David (Sharon's DH) and I get to work out what we can with the 'real people." So DW better come up with good photos. Dave and I will give you a more plebian perspective. Here they are, but not for me:

donheff, you are a good guy lettin' the ladies sit up front with the important folks. I will look forward to your comments and pictures and suspect you and David might do just fine with the regular folks. Cheers!

hmm...I just printed that pic out and it looks pretty good. Hey buddy, wanna buy a ticket?

Don't be a grump. It's a big day for the whole country.

Just wait until he walks across the Reflecting Pool.

I have to admit, I considered printing a couple of copies on matte photo paper. But the originals are two sided and embossed - so no go. Besides, cheating on such a positive occasion would be truly venal.

Aretha Franklin singing " My Country Tis of Thee " brought tears to my eyes . Plus her hat was fabulous .

That would not have been too impressive. It was frozen solid. After the ceremony was over, the guards didn't bother to keep people off the pool. Yes, even mere mortals were walking on water! ;)

Apparently, it was Chief Justice John Roberts who erred. That put Obama in a tough spot, he clearly knew which was correct, but then you end up pointing out the other's mistake.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't - but he might as well get used to that - he's our President now (and I wish him all the best)!

As much as I don't put much stock in pomp and circumstance, and I'm a lot more interested in what actions will follow than all this hoopla, I have to admit I got caught up in it a bit. It was good to see that it all came off peacefully.

I was hoping the market would be up on that, I want to sell some calls, but not looking to be a good day for that.

Lots to be proud of today. Every inauguration, to me, validates the incredible process we have and highlights the importance of the Constitution. It's not about the new President, or about the departing one. 44 peaceful changes of power from one man to another over the course of over 230 years--few nations can match it. As long as we have the Constitution and as long as respect for its tenets remains strong in the populace, our future is bright.

Yes! That hat will have a prominent place in the apolitical history of inauguration attire, "from JFK's no hat to Aretha."

Wonderful event. The crowds were huge and friendly. I left at 8:00 AM and the mall was already full. Had to walk all the way down to the Washington Monument. I will post pictures later. For now this one will have to suffice:

I wish I could have seen it! Maybe it will be on the news tonight.

They didn't relent and allow us to gather at a TV in a conference room until the last minute. When I got there it was already 11:04 (12:04 Eastern), a minute before the swearing in began. I am glad I got to see that, and his speech which I thought was so inspirational and moving.
