    ACA repeal question

@Gumby. This is not meant to be political. What is the correct way to ask this question? The ACA is VERY important to early retirees. Just not sure how easy it would be at this point to repeal. Sorry, I guess we just deal with it if/when it happens. Close the thread please!

This weather is awful - 2024 to ?

Yesterday was a record high of 72 in Las Vegas! Sunny and beautiful! Not complaining after a January of mostly below normal temps. Winter comes back tomorrow though.

    ACA repeal question

As a large percentage of early retirees probably get insurance through the ACA, I was wondering what would it take for a "new" administration to repeal it? There are current promises of repeal. Would it take 60 votes in the Senate? John McCain was the savior last time. I'm not feeling...

    Birding

We're just starting to see the Sandhill Cranes here in Central NM. Seems like they're a little bit late. Also getting Woodpeckers and Western Bluebirds that migrate through.

    Is the realestate bubble bursting?

We own property in Las Vegas NV and a small community outside of Albuqerque. Things seem to have slowed down some in both places. Sales have really slowed down in Vegas, but inventory is still very low. In Corrales where we are currently, activity is still good. Prices here have gone up...

Is it a sin for wanting to own a nice car?

DH and I are both car people having both been in the business for 30 plus years. We always bought cheaper quality used cars while we were working. Once retired we bought a used 2019 Lexus GX460 and used 2021 Lexus NX300. Both great cars. Last year DH got a 17 Shelby GT350R Mustang. That was...

a 2 year check up. Are we OK?

@ pb4uski. Yes, the rental is under market a bit. We paid 80k for the house 10 years ago as a foreclosure and have had the same tenant during that time. We've only bumped him once for 100 dollars a month. He's paid the house off for us and has been a great tenant through the years. The value...

    Why move to Florida?

I see people mention Texas as a retirement destination because of no state income tax. But the government there gets its revenue from property taxes which are very high. Florida has EXTREMELY high property insurance if you can even get it. I have family there in Titusville. They have to get...

    A Life Well Lived

Thank you everyone for the condolences. It has been a rough couple of weeks. Talking with my brothers and reflecting on his life though really made us think how fortunate he was and really made the most of his retirement. They would make regular trips out to Las Vegas to visit us and we always...

    A Life Well Lived

Just wanted to write about my Father who passed away of a stroke a couple weeks ago at the age of 78. He was an adopter of early retirement with him and my stepmother retiring at the ages of 55 back in 2000. They had some bad timing with SORR as the markets tanked shortly after they retired...

    New Car Shopping-Rav4?

We were coming from a Subaru Crosstrek so the cargo space is virtually identical. The Rav4 does have a little more cargo space. The newer Rav4 has the spare mounted under the cargo floor as well. For just the 2 of us and our 2 dogs the space is fine. It comes with Apple Carplay and Android...

    New Car Shopping-Rav4?

We just bought a 21 Lexus NX 300 AWD which is based off the Rav4 I believe. It is Lexus CPO certified with 19k miles. Car is in like new condition with one owner and all maintenance done at the Lexus dealership. Much more comfortable than the Crosstrek we had. I felt the seats in that car were...

Any other long-term CA residents reconsidering their “forever home”?

I'm one of the poor native Californians who left San Diego area in the late 80s. Long story short, I grew up in Ohio and once graduated high school went back to San Diego to be near my Mother. I loved living there but decided to leave for Las Vegas for COL issues. Wife and I have done well in...

    Used car sale transaction process

You might stop by a few local new car dealerships. You might end up paying a little bit more but at least you know who you are dealing with. You can also let them know what you are looking for and if they get something traded in they will call you. Some dealers will sell a car to you that would...

We are entering a "Golden Period" for fixed income investing

I've learned so much from this thread. Never bought indvidual bonds before. I now have several 1 to 5 year bonds paying around 6 to 6.25 percent. Also have a TIPS bond and several CDs averaging around 4.75 percent. I did have part of my fixed income in a bond fund. I sold that about six months...

I bought a 2021 Toyota Landcruiser Heritage edition new. Sold it after owning it a year for 5k more than I paid. Had I kept it I could get another 15k or more. Our 1995 Toyota Landcruiser has gone up in value since we bought it. We paid 11k for it in 2016. Been offered 25k for it. We...

Best CD, MM Rates & Bank Special Deals Thread 2023 - Please post updates here

We bought a couple of good multi year CDs back in November. One was a 3 year paying 4.9 non callable. That was from Capital One. I've been waiting for the 5 percenters but not sure that we will. It's looking like November was the best time to buy. Bought a 1 year paying 4.7 a couple of days...
