what office software product do you use?

This is a good point. DW has a lot of photos that we back up online. We get unlimited space as part of our Amazon Prime account however, if I was to pay for cloud storage, paying for a subscription to 365 would definitely be considered. I’d get the office product I’m familiar with and the...

    "Affordability" and a new car

Your WR indicates that you can probably buy anything you want. Focus on the other aspects of the vehicle and buy one that suits you in other ways. Coming from the car you currently have, you’re going to be hit with a huge amount of new technology in a vehicle. Personally, I’d start with...

what office software product do you use?

Not free but I buy the MS Office version that is loaded onto one computer (no subscription). It's usually around $150 but can be found cheaper on sale at times. https://www.bestbuy.com/site/microsoft-office-home-student-2021-1-device-mac-os-windows-digital/6474446.p?skuId=6474446

    Advice needed

If the OP was thinking of going with a high equity percentage, I’d go with dollar cost averaging. With 50/50, I’d set it up immediately and be done with it.

Now project those expense numbers into the future - your retired future (not inflation). What will your retiree health insurance expense be? Paying any college for those children? You want to live in a house or rent the rest of your life? You’re going to need another car which is something we...

    "Affordability" and a new car

Given that you are obviously a person who will keep a car a long time, I would not be too concerned with the budget. Reliability would be in the top of the list along with getting something I’d want. Then my budget would focus on getting the best deal (or at least a good deal) versus trying to...

    46 newly Divorced Single Dad.

You have a lot of figuring to do. You haven't mentioned your expenses but that is something you're going to have to get a very good handle on. I don't want to be the messenger of bad news, but I think it will be a serious challenge to retire early - especially before 60 when you will not even...

    Financial Planning for Assisted Living

This ^^^ Basically, my goal is to leave my daughters with a million. More would be better but the million is basically my savings for this type of situation. It's either the DD's inheritance or money for our care. I don't have ten million or what ever it would take to be assured that me and...

    Naked Gardening Day 2024

My neighbor gave that a NO for me. Funny thing is that gardening around here is quite the opposite. Me and DW wear a lot of cloths when gardening to keep from getting too much sun and protect against bugs - especially ticks.

Restaurant adding fee for use of credit card

What about the convenience to the establishment of not having to handle cash? The cc fees don't seem as simple as the fries. This is also an issue for DW who says "what are we going to do when we get to a cashless society?" - something that seems to be more and more encouraged these days...

Restaurant adding fee for use of credit card

I don't use my debit card for anything except getting cash out of the ATM. I don't like the extra fee but I guess we can't expect our cash back rewards to go on forever. As long as I know in advance, it doesn't upset me to pay the fee but generally, I'll use cash in that situation. I always...

Asking for severance in exchange to quit

Our company would have staff reductions from time to time. I was ready to retire when one came up and I volunteered to leave. I’m sure it happens but I don’t recall someone getting a package during normal times, only during reductions or when people were let go (fired). My company had a...

Update on Cord Cutting (Cable TV) - 2021 version

Same thing I did. I think I did a little better on the annual Peacock subscription and a little worse on the Hulu but still, pretty good amount of entertainment for not too much money. Kind of hate to admit it, but I wanted to make sure I could watch The Voice and American Idol on demand. DW...

    Alpha-gal

DW is allergic to the protein in milk also. It is indeed difficult to eat away from home. Thankfully her allergic reaction is limited to a GI response vs anything life threatening but still a very uncomfortable next day and certainly not something one wants to deal with on a trip.

    Friggin leaking hose connection!

It doesn’t seem seated correctly. Are you sure you didn’t cross thread it? That’s why I like the brass fittings - they thread correctly, no guessing. When you cross thread plastic, it just seems tight to turn, but in reality, you’re damaging the threads and there’s no going back.

    Moved into CCRC today

Which brings a thought to mind. When is the right time to get into a CCRC based on the demographics. Is it too late because the baby boom will be hitting that industry hard? Is it a perfect time because to new inflow for the next decade will give them a good base? Will it be too late when...

    Standard Deduction Tracking

True, there are complications, but in those examples, the problem only goes in one direction. In other words, if you’re over the standard deduction in total, you might still be better off taking the standard deduction due to limitations. However, if you add up all deductions and you’re under...

    MYGA

No expert but I have one. Got it a few years ago when 3.5% for 7 years seemed like a good deal. Who knew rates would go up so much. Anyway, there are two things that I wish I better understood before I bought mine. Many will let you take out something like 10% per year after the first year...

Update on Cord Cutting (Cable TV) - 2021 version

Any time I sign up for a deal on any subscription, I always put a reminder in my calendar right away so I don’t get burned. Usually it’s just a month at the standard rate. An entire year would be very upsetting. Still, everyone needs to be careful. I feel like their business model relies on...

I think my gas range needs repaired.

No, sorry, I’m just not using the range at the moment. Got distracted by some other issues. I will call the gas company on Monday and report back once I have their findings.
