    New Rules for Realtors

Haha so true! I think the change in fees happen mid-July, so I may manage to purchase before then. I'll definitely arrange a fixed price if I don't buy soon.

    New Rules for Realtors

I'm looking for a house to buy right now so I'm thinking about this issue. I've been working with an agent but haven't signed a contract with him. I'd find it strange to sign a contract that's based on a percentage of the house price when I'd be hoping the agent would negotiate a lower price...

$500,000 per couple primary residence exclusion and inflation

I recently sold my primary residence and have to cough up about $70k for Federal taxes. If I didn't sell, I'd be looking at some costly repairs in the next few years plus the property taxes on the place are killing me. I do think it's a good point in time to at least think about selling when...

Those Who don't/didn't do Roth Conversions

If your converting to the top of the 24% bracket and additionally have dividends taking you to the max IRMAA level, then you're probably paying a lot in federal taxes st IRMAA isn't the greatest issue. That's what I felt the poster who thought there was too much hand-wringing about IRMAA meant.

    The I Bond Thread

I'm not thrilled my recently purchased I-bonds will have crappy rates looking forward, but we've been 'spoiled' with high inflation, and I can go back to my original thinking. I want to keep a ladder of I-bonds worth about my yearly spend for liability matching to inflation.

    Big purchase, how to pay?

There is that little loop hole with a tight timeline, if you transfer money out of an IRA and have your brokerage cut a check to you, you have 60 days to put the money into another IRA without taxable repercussions. That's my understanding anyways.

That episode struck me too, as a bookworm child. Now I have very weak eyes and reading gives me a headache but audio books and podcasts keep me pretty happy.

    Drinking water - how much?

I have no idea how much. It was the day after a hot day of replacing a roof, so probably quite a bit but definitely not crazy person gallons.

    Drinking water - how much?

I'll mention this since I don't think most people know this can happen. I took a friend to the emergency room because they drank too much water. They fell to t the ground, maybe passed out, and were very confused, but luckily managed to call me or they might have died. They had to have a...

    Your Favorite 2023 Purchase?

This year I gave away, threw away or sold almost everything I own. I sold my cabin, and my house is set to close in March, and the house is mostly empty. So...I bought myself a life reset in exchange for my worldly possessions, oh except my money.

What is your pet peeve of the day? -- 2021

You could try asking Fidelity to reimburse the closing fee. I don't know if they'll do it for small amount transfers. They like to see some kind of documentation of the fee, such as a copy of a statement.

What is your pet peeve of the day? -- 2021

Wait, isn't this a funny joke even before cell phone cameras, holding the fish with arms out toward the camera made it look bigger. A play on the olden days, when someone asks how big was the fish, and the fisherman starts with hands pretty close together and then spread them wider and grin wider.

I was so glad I had a lot of 20's in my wallet when I went to get my oil changed yesterday. The whole crew was so friendly and kind to me, and service was quick and thorough. I went right when they first opened and was the only customer the whole time, so I gave 20's to all without interrupting...

    A chicken house quandary

^this You won't want a race to the bottom on price if neighbors put their houses on the market. I just sold 2 properties and found doing the disclosures to be nerve wracking. I over disclosed most would say, but I still think of things that maybe I should have written in, and I think I will...

When I tried to buy UPRO the first time, I had to check a couple of boxes at Schwab and Fidelity saying I understood the risks of leverage. Thereafter, I could buy no problem.
