    Keeping Professional Certifications after RE?

I thought I would keep my PMP certification for several years after I retired. I went to one project management seminar day (earning continuing education credits) and somewhere during the day it hit me that I've left this world - I was never going to be formally managing projects again. Shortly...

    Medicare

So I'm sure this is answered somewhere in the thread.. but a quick search could not find it - so guessing folks here have some quick answers. DW and I are not yet taking Social Security and she is turning 65 in November. She applied today for Medicare Parts A & B on the SS website. Assuming she...

    Stocks as Hedge Against Inflation

Was reading an article in the local paper today (syndicated column written by Terry Savage) that says "Stocks have always been a good hedge against inflation - over the long run...... Keeping some cash on the sidlines risks the impact of inflation. Still, if you need cash for living expenses, it...

    Most Annoying Commercial

I was taught in my marketing classes in college that doesn't matter whether folks like the commercial or not, as long as they remember it!!!! Brand recognition is what it's all about... supposedly, the brand stays in the forefront of one's mind at purchase decision time....

    2020 ACA Clawback

Hi all - paid my taxes before the Winter/Spring relief bill and the payment included Clawback for the 2020 ACA. That relief bill promised that the Clawback would not be taken and all the guidance for those that had already repaid it was to wait on the IRS. Does anyone know if that guidance has...

    Movers lose table

We recently moved and had to put our stuff in storage for a week and a half while we stayed in the hotel. The movers didn't bring certain items when we moved in to the new home - most notably my toolkit and a Table with a Marble Top my wife had from her childhood home. After some pressing them...

    Recommendation for Tipping Movers?

Hi All - moving in about 2 weeks and wanting to know what everyone feels is appropriate amount for tipping the movers (if they do a good job). Also, moving company is coming in 2 days ahead of time to pack up the kitchen for us (we're doing the rest of the house). Should we tip separately for that?

Lowering Age for Medicare + Vision, Dental

Reading in the news that there's a push in Congress (which appears to be gaining some momentum) to lower the Medicare eligibility age to 60 or 55 and to add dental, vision and hearing coverage to Medicare. Just wondering how that might impact those of us in the 55-65 age group currently on ACA...

    ACA Premium if Income Doubles

Maybe this has been answered already in another thread (if so, please direct me). If my income doubles (because I am inflating my income for ROTH conversions) is there a way (a formula? a calculator?) to figure out the impact on my monthly ACA premium. My premium went down thanks to the Rescue...

Well, the good news is it's not esophageal cancer...

Ian, sorry to hear about your achalasia trouble. My wife suffers from the same problem. She had a Heller Myotomy back in 2012 and it helped her quite a bit. She now has some symptoms that are revving up again and is undergoing re-evaluation. She just completed a Barium Swallow Test confirming...

    Temporary Housing

So, the good news is that we sold our house!!! (... and in this hot market, got much more than our initial guesstimate)... The bad news is that due to COVID-related materials shortages, the new home being built for us looks like it will be delayed. Don't have a clue right now if the delay is...

    Which offer would you take?

Just thought I'd close the loop here. After the full 2 weekend days of showing(s) + an additional 2 showings Monday and one on Tuesday morning - we had, by mid-day Tuesday, 14 offers. The highest offer had a home sale contingency, so we passed on that - but the good news was that this high...

    Which offer would you take?

We asked for no personal letters - don't know whether this was smart or not, but didn't want to cloud the issue with emotion - just the strength of the offer, please. RE agent saying that waiving appraisal contingency is pretty common in this market and we already have 2 offers where this was...

    Which offer would you take?

Thanks - yes, we are getting good guidance from the realtor - just thought I'd get some additional advice/comfort from others here who have the experience. Realtor echoes your comment about "zero risk selling in this market"

Thanks - i tend to agree - just for the record - two of the offers that came in with the appraisal contingency waived. Definitely looking a pre-approvals.

I retired beginning of November and saw net worth drop 4% through the end of the year - but it re-bounded completely plus a smidgen in Jan/Feb 19. Which offer would you take?

Our home went on sale this weekend and we are fortunate enough to have already received 3 above-list offers - the RE agent tells us at least 2 more offers will be coming in, possibly more. Now, which to accept? Nice problem, I know. I obviously will be looking at total price, contingencies...

What and how was your experience of breaking the news to your employer about leaving?

Pretty good - I told my boss in late August - he asked me if I could stay on till the end of the fiscal quarter - which was Nov 2nd. Didn't mind collecting the few extra paychecks because the stress was gone after I announced.
