ACA Subsidy Calculator By Zip Code

Well, that is encouraging. It definitely has lowered the projected costs for me in my state that has not released figures. Earlier in the year, Kaiser had it as 4X current cost, to a little more than double the current cost, now.

Be careful though. This calculator was very different from my state's calculator inputting the same situation and then I noticed that the Kaiser calculator had a little note "We do not have data for the state selected. The results will show national averages." which is strange since my state's data has been public for quite a while.

I agree. I am just having "fun" with it. I personally won't put much stock into the pricing until the second and third years, to see if the carriers underpriced for marketshare the first year.

In my haste to post this, I didn't read the disclaimer that Kaiser posted:

"The calculator includes local premium data from 46 states plus the District of Columbia. The remaining four states (Kentucky, Massachusetts, New York and Vermont) either set premiums using different formulas than other states or have not yet provided needed premium data. The Foundation hopes to expand the calculator to include those states in the future."

Sorry about that.

It appears that with no subsidy, if I were ACA eligible, my premium would be less than it currently is on Medicare+supplement.

Ha

Based on 2013 earnings, I'd be forced into Medicaid. Is that so bad, compared to getting a subsidized Silver program? If so, maybe late next year I'd look into a part-time Christmas season job to up my earnings to avoid mandatory Medicaid. Thoughts?

In some areas, you do not want Medicaid. OTOH, some posters have said that in their location, Medicaid coverage is fine.

It is hard for me to imagine doctors so pure that they do notice at what level they are being paid on a case.

Ha

I would guess the coverage and cost share is different. The biggest contribution to lower premiums is a smaller (more restricted) network of providers.

Darn, that caculator said I am looking at 50% increase for a bronze plan, just a few more days here in FL before know.

I guess I shouldn't be too surprised, I read people with a high deductible plan will pay more, but at 55 years old I thought I was being subsidized by the youth.

Being on Medicaid would probably suck! Instead of getting 3 minutes with your doc on regular insurance, what do you get? 2 minutes? :D
