Hey everyone! I've been off the radar screen because DH and I have been working hard on a big fund raising event for our local animal shelter.

The event was held this past Saturday and was a big success! We raised about $5,000 and were astonished by the big turnout and generosity of the community, particularly during these difficult economic times. I'm hoping this is a sign of better times ahead!

Glad to hear you are doing OK; we were about to put out an APB on you...
Happy the fundraiser was a sucess. It always amazes me how people in difficult economic times, many of whom are who are struggling themselves find it in their hearts (and budgets) to support these events.

What kind of event did you have? The Shelter group I volunteer with has the "Catnip Tea" in the spring and the "Big Dog Run" in the fall. Always interested in new fundraising ideas. JanF

We had a silent auction of items donated by supporters of the shelter. We provided refreshments and had a Karoke contest we called "Animal Idol". Three ladies who work the front desk at the shelter rocked it out! Everyone had a great time, and in addition to raising money, we generated lots of good vibes for the shelter.

This thread is USELESS without pics....:D

OK dude, you asked for it. Here's "Eddie". A little dog who came to the shelter hanging onto dear life. He had swallowed something that became lodged in his GI tract and needed emergency surgery. Our group took care of Eddie and he was adopted. He attended our event as the VIP guest!

A popular fund-raising event with animal shelters is a 'charity casino'. It takes a large amount of work to set up and run a classy casino, but if you attract the upper crust you can really rake in the dough. The animal shelter I volunteer with has an annual 'catsino' which seems to do pretty well. I've never actually run one so I can't provide any more details. :greetings10:
