As another drop out from the class of 2012, I share your pain.

Rather strangely, two senior guys are flying out to Hong Kong in early January to "discuss" my "proposed" retirement with me. I have no idea why.

Added my name to the list since I dropped out of the 2012 class, official date is now 4/30/13. Also, it appears I am the elder statesman in this class at 63, but I actually retired when I was 54 and decided to go back to work since the mental adjustment was not yet in alignment with RE, as incredible as that may sound.

With only 49 get up days left I am starting to see my work place differently. More like an outsider. I am starting to mentally leave the building. And I must say as an outsider I am really disappointed at what I see. The lying, back stabbing, and brown nosing is pathetic. Now more then ever I don't know how I was able to work there for 28 years. I guess you can do some amazing things when you have to. The sad thing is I would'nt of had to. I now realize I could of started my own business and been more successful. Oh we'll, you can't change yesterday. I am so looking forward to my new life beginning at the end of my last work day of March 1st.

What do folks think about adding in their retirement dates to the list. That way we have scheduled virtual retirement parties :)

I've been planning this in ernest for about 3 years and the 1/11/13 date is now around the corner. I went through a period of doubt and uncertainty for quite awhile , but I find that has resolved itself and is being replaced with more of a quiet confidence and anticipation.

Congrats and best wishes to all for 2013.

102 days to go until March 29. But who's counting, other than all of us.

I came down with a head/chest cold week before last. Trying to tough it out and go to work, I turned it into bronchitis and a mild case of pneumonia. After a few days at home on antibiotics, I'm back at work. But for work, I would have rested and probably have been okay by now.

It is really hard to put up with it at this point. There are a few clients that I feel a moral obligation to finish out their cases, but I sure could walk away from the rest of it sooner rather than later. Oh well, 102 days will speed by.

I'm very happy to be part of the class of 2013. After 36+ years, my last day will be June 7th after just turning 60 years young.

Good and bad news for me:
As my employer is downsizing to cut cost I have carefully indicated that I am willing to discuss leaving if a compensation is granted (not a risk for me, as German employment law does not grant dismissal at will).

Bosses have let me know that I am on no list, that they want to keep me and highly appreciate my work, too much to let me go (my comment to myself: but not enough for a salary increase or promotion).

I have to give notice at latest end of March to be out here when DH retires.
Till then I will continue to look out for "deals" flying around... things and numbers might change...

The exact date is not set in stone, but it is the first concrete date to have been floated by my partners. It could just be the end of the year, but probably not sooner than the date posted.

Chance I might be joining this group.

I was planning for class of 2016. Originally hoped for 2014 but decided 2 more years of income/saving would make it safer.

But they just announced my division is being sold - and I figure there's a 50/50 chance of being on the layoff list in the next 6 months.

Ideally, I'd pad the coffers for a few more years - but we still have about a 90% firecalc success rate with our current nest egg.

At 51 with pretty specialized (but old) skills (embedded C programmer) - not sure how marketable I am. Plus I'm burnt out.

At this point I'm hoping to be on the first wave of layoffs. Before the severance package shrinks. Current corporate overlord is reasonably generous with severance, new corporate overlords are smaller, and likely to offer less.

I should put my name on that list but somehow I just can't seem to get up the courage yet to pull the trigger. My BS bucket is overflowing at work - I almost feel like I'd prefer to get canned just so I make myself do this.

Had my evaluation the other day. What a moronic ritual that is! I guess I appreciated the feedback when I was 24, but now it just seems like a waste of time when I know so much more about what I do than my boss. Under "goals" last year I almost put "keep from getting fired or going postal." I figured it was measurable, achievable, a stretch, and all that stuff they want you to apply to your goals.

Anyway, last year when they were laying off half the office (which is why I am now so stressed with an impossible work load) they were asking some people to go part-time (I found out later that was code for "take a temporary pay cut for the same number of hours.") I told my boss I was interested then, but it wasn't an option since my group had more work than we could handle, unlike the rest of the office. Anyway, he brought it up in the evaluation the other day so on the spot I decided to tell him I'd love to go part time, and why don't we set a target date of July 1 for that? He actually agreed. So I'm mentally holding that as my part-time date, or even my FIRE date.

We'll see...

Thanks to all for the inspiration.

Add me to the list effective March 1. After 36 years of 401K savings and working for Megacorp, I have enough and I've had enough. All and all, it's been a good place to work with plenty of opportunities and still has a defined benefit pension plan. But, like any megacorp it's got it's fair share of BS, and my tolerance for that is dissipating. I'm looking forward to the next phase of life.

Would like to add my DH to this list, officially, so he doesn't chicken out!

I'm transferring in from the Class of 2016. My wife and I have discussed it at length and decided to take the plunge ahead of schedule. She will finish her current year of teaching and retire early June. We will put our house on the market this Spring and then move to Cozumel in early July. We should be good to go financially but I will probably work part time for a couple of years to pad the accounts and get me closer to the magic 59 1/2. I'm self employed so it's not a big deal. Can work 1-2 hours per day taking care of half a dozen long time customers and earn some decent cash. And it will be even less of a burden in the new locale.

Nice! Bet you get lots of visitors in Cozumel. I haven't been there but have heard some really nice things about it.

It's a quirky little place that some people love and others not so much. My wife would prefer to retire to New York City but I'm more of a Kalispell, MT type of guy so we compromised and settled on Cozumel. We visited first time seven years ago to scuba dive and fell in love with the place. Now, if I can just keep her from blowing a gasket due to over excitement between now and July ...

I declared as class of 2013 very early in the thread, but somehow my name never got on the list. I'm still planning to retire in the spring, after my reconstructive surgery (late April) or when I run out of vacation time, whichever comes first.

Need some quick advice as I just found out 6 more weeks. Should I put all my income for the next 6 weeks into 401k? There won't be a match, it would just be for tax purposes - but are there any tax advantages over the year? I don't need the cash, and it would bring my income down to nearly nothing for next years Obamacare - will have enough income above for non Medicaid band. Or should I take it as cash as I won't have much taxable income? Any advice? What should I be considering?
