The average of all those with ages posted (46 out of the 49 retirees of the class of 2013) is 54.6 years old. Mighty impressive!!
Well I did it! After 30 years of preparation (saving and LBYM) and 34 years of employment at the same institution, I completed this phase of my life. Tomorrow I am officially ER'd and the next chapters of my life begin. I am looking forward to them.
I just got home from a nice retirement party after which my mom asked if I was sad. I answered in a word - No. I was more than ready even though over those 34 years, there were many more good days than bad, and I enjoyed most of my duties. It was a great place to work and I enjoyed the autonomy I accrued over the years.

Between handing over some of my management roles and not being staffed on projects that are likely to run past my 30 September retirement date, for all practical purposes I am now working part time and am keeping a few books in the office to fill in the spare time - the last five months are shaping up to be the least stressful of my career.
#26 up there (my DH) is getting very excited! He's set to give notice the end of the month and leave the industry he's worked in since he was 18 years old. Although he's not on here, he's been the beneficiary of much knowledge from this forum and we are both grateful for it.
I'm not sure yet if this will be more of a long sabbatical for him where he finds something else interesting to do in a year or so, or whether he'll be converting fully to being an employee of Sarah, Inc. for the duration.
Enjoy your last few working days, & stop rubbing it in
Add one more MRG is retired as of 05/01/2013. Still figuring out when to wake up!.
My last day of work was Friday (but I am taking Monday and Tuesday as vacation days). We went to the California redwoods to celebrate both retirement and my 56th birthday (today). Unfortunately I woke up with the flu, had an 8 hour car ride back to Portland, then proceeded to lose my wallet about 2 hours south of Portland.
So, I have been on the phone cancelling credit cards and trying to figure out how to get new library, mass transit, insurance, etc. cards... What I really want to do is get into bed.
The good news is we had no car problems and most of all we made it home safely. This is just a minor annoyance.
