For decades , Walmart auto centers have used " oil in a box" 12 qt bulk oil , plastic bag with spigot , in a box , like wine in a box.

Now I see it in the retail section. Mobil 1 , 12 qt box for $ 54.88 . The store price for the 5 qt jugs vary from $ 23 to $ 27 , so it doesn't save $ , just reduces plastic waste.

I understand that we'll be seeing a lot of products packaged this way, most notably laundry detergent, since the "bag in a box" is cheaper to ship via Amazon, Walmart.com, etc.

The store brand full synthetic oil in a box is $ 32 for 12 qts. Don't know who makes it.

Amazon has a store brand synthetic oil, but it's about the same price as the name brands.

I think this thread might indeed be on a slipery slope.
