The Dry Dock is one of our "go to" nice dinner places.. usually with a small group of friends.

Thanks for the Monday tip. Checking this out today! We briefly toured the grounds, and saw that this Saturday is Family day so it's free as well.
We noticed the Amish amoungst us as we ate ice cream near Lido Beach. We will check this place out, thanks!
I will take the Mrs. KG to Dry Dock. I did bring the bicycle and have been on a few rides. Sadly we've been here four days and the guests I am with and my family are attracted to the Lido Beach area. Still planning to check out Siesta Keys area, then me and the ole man will rent harley's riding up to St Pete's and back down to Venice...unless anyone has suggestions for a better cruise.
Currently trying to find the best place to launch the sailboat for a few days... BUSY!
Ole man and I will for sure stop here on the Harley's for a quick gator snack and a beer.

The Marina Jack Dining Room (on the 2nd floor) has floor-to-ceiling wraparound windows with pleasant water and sunset views. This is a good place for a romantic dinner with your spouse or SO.

The Shore on st. armand's circle, Owen's fish camp is great (the waiting area in the back yard is fun), Blue rooster is great for food and live music. The Rosemary, Boca, Duvals, Casey Key fish house is a nice stop if on motorcycles. Pops in Nokomis. JMHO
We decided against the harley's as we quickly discovered the terrain was not conducive to the types of open lane riding we like. Lots of stop n go along 41/301 which gets hot on motorcycles.
Thanks for all of the suggestions we enjoyed the dining we did have with one exception. We went to this place on Siesta Key that had terrible service. The kind where people who showed up long after we did were being served dinner before when presumably our simply ordered dishes should not have been delayed. Either a problem with wait or cook staff. Thankfully it was not one of the suggestions from you all, and I sort of knew we might have issues.
I was soo taken back by the amount of Amish / Mennonites we saw. It totally changed my perspective on what I thought I knew about their culture. Some had cell phones, saw a few of the amish men at the sarasota bay boat launch loading a favorably sized boat... on the beaches, in the ice cream stores. I thought they lived a bit more secluded and restricted but it appeared my perception was incorrect. Yoders was great and it looks like they have locations in Georgia and Pennsylvania as well.
I am not much of a foodie, we only ate out 4 of the 33 total meals, so that's like 88% of the time eating at our rented house. But when you can grill filet's poolside in 85 degree weather, why bother waiting and paying for someone else to cook and serve food?
Saw the Unconditional Surrender statue and stopped by the Tiki Bar for a drink, Ringling museum, the Botanical Garden, the Jungle garden, sailed the Bay, did some mini golf with the kids, some golfing with the ole man, shopping with grandma and Mrs KG. We visited Service Club Park, Venice Beach, Chauncy Howard, Siesta Keys Beach, Lido Beach and Longboat Key. I'm sure I'm missing something, best part was it was another opportunity to be pretend retired for a bit. We were originally going to look for property, but we want to checkout West Palm Beach first before we make any rash decisions. Seems like red tide killed the tourist industry a bit, or at least that's what some of the locals were stating. I couldn't imagine 41 with 2x the traffic and people, guess we picked a good year to visit. A few amazing sunsets and even a couple sunrises. We ran across that Sarasota Bay Bridge one morning as well and went on a few bicycle rides.
If you are wondering, no we do not travel light lol. 2 car seats, a double stroller a couple checked bags and a cpl carry ons, oh and then the 3/4 ton my ole man drove down to haul the boat, bikes and all the kids toys.

I took a local class on Amish/Mennonite culture led by a Mennonite with deep roots in both Sarasota and the culture. He said that for snowbird Amish/Mennonites (the majority), "What happens in Sarasota stays in Sarasota."
As you discovered, there is surprising variety in belief and practices among the Amish/Mennonites.The high season traffic doesn't seem quite as bad this year. I rarely get down to the coast so I can't comment on the situation down there. Rampant over-development is a local issue, red tide or not - definitely something to keep an eye on.
