H&R Block and foreign tax credit

I haven't filed 2016 yet but I have completed the return in HRBlock Deluxe. Out of curiosity I went in an printed a PDF of a "return to file" and the 1116 was there.

Maybe it doesn't print/file if the form isn't complete.

Were you able to use the credit? In other words, was the bottom line of the form, and line 48 of 1040, non-zero? Mine was 0. I figure that's why it wasn't filed, because it didn't have any impact on 2016 taxes. However, I can carry the unused credits back or forward, so it needs to be filed so the IRS can refer to the unused credit in 2016.
