Heads up: EFTPS now requires new login

Thanks for starting this thread. I thought I was up to date on this having made a Q3 payment previously, but evidently the new login procedure was effective starting in October. I'm setup with Login.gov now. Once over that hurdle, my old login info worked.

I just tried to pay my estimated tax yesterday, went through the process to get signed up w/login.gov. That was OK, but on the EFTPS site, I couldn't log in. They said there was no account linked to my information in the login page. Seems to have disappeared. Gonna pay by mail and then try to create a new account I suppose.

I thought there was a way to make a one-time payment on-line, w/o any account set up? The account set up, IIRC, is needed to schedule repeated/future payments?

You need to be logged in to Login.gov first in order to log into EFTPS.

That’s probably for a different IRS payment site. EFTPS requires an account.

I am logged in through login.gov. It is the EFTPS website that doesn't recognize me anymore. Can't request a new password there either. I tried changing the password with my bank info and the enrollment last 8 digits. My account is gone.

That's what I'm saying. If OP is having trouble getting into EFTPS, and is looking to mail a check, I'm pretty sure there was a one-time on-line payment method that didn't require any account set up. IMO, that would be far better than relying on snail-mail, you'd have instant feedback that it was paid.

I just went here:

Click on form 1040 series, there is a tab for estimated payments. I obviously didn't click through, but it just asks for CC#, so I think that's all there is to it. No account set up needed for this.

I realize this doesn't solve OP's issues with the EFTPS account, but it gets the job done as far as getting a payment made.

Great! I just looked it up and there does seem to be a Direct Pay option on the IRA website. Thank you ERD50 (and copilot AI).

Just paid through my checking with no fee. Very easy. Glad that monkey is off my back.

I schedule all 4 quarterly payments at one time. Next one coming up is 6/12, and the money to cover it is already in my bank account.

So I can now signup for login.gov & then register an account with the IRS?

I never trusted id.me & so used DirectPay instead.
