Heathrow to Central London Transfer: Uber or Taxi?

I've only stayed once at a hotel near the airport and that was because the airline flubbed my connection and they paid for the hotel.

Are rates better than in central London?

Because when I've searched in the past, it wasn't that big a savings, if at all to stay at an airport hotel vs. staying in town.

We worried about that last month because we were transiting through LHR on May 5, one of the days when our terminal was being struck. But it turned out to be a nothing burger - the fill-in team worked just fine.
