Home utility expenses

1,100 sqft apartment in San Francisco (monthly averages):

$100 for electric (no A/C, and we almost never use the heater)
$95 for water and sewer (we have no control over this, it is based on the consumption of the entire building)
$24 for trash collection

2400 sqft house in MN.

Gas & electric $142/mo
Water $35
Trash $25

So about $202/mo total

ER1970 we replaced our old furnace with a heat pump. We replaced all door and windows with more efficient ones. That has saved us about $50 per month in heating/cooling. The standby furnace generally runs only December - mid-February with the heat pump handling the rest. Prior to those changes, just gas and electric were $200/mo.
