How have your expenses changed with the Corona Virus?

Our expenses are down. We usually eat out twice a week and also like to go to a couple of places with live music. We are getting takeout a few times a week. Spending more on groceries and much less on gas. Also canceled our month trip to Europe in August so that saved 10k.

Our expenses are down pretty sharply as the opportunities to "go out and do something" (aka "spend money") have dwindled. We're taking the extra cash flow and giving more to local charities that are helping, leaving bigger tips when we get takeout, and trying to shore up a hemorrhaging retirement nest egg.

Like most others, down significantly. Primarily down because of canceled trips, no restaurants, less driving, and no gym costs. Groceries up slightly since eating all meals at home, but that is more than offset by savings.

Looks to me like there are two groups here. One includes those who travel and eat out a lot, who have seen their expenses fall. Then there are those like me who have seen little or no change, perhaps even a small rise in expenses because we rarely if ever travel or eat out. Those of us in that group may be paying slightly more for groceries because store sales are gone, without any offsetting savings elsewhere.

Food bill way up due to stocking up and ignoring prices. We just moved 2 months ago so we’re starting from
Scratch.

$850 less a month eating out. Probably a couple hundred less a month on fuel. No camping fees ($300+ a month) A little more on groceries because we’re maintaining several weeks of staples, plus paying delivery fees and tip (total about +$80 a month).

We generally spend $1000 - $1500 a month from investments, for travelling and camping, over our pensions. Last month we had $875 left over from our pensions. So yea - we’re saving a great deal of money being stuck at home.
