I Wonder Why Brick and Mortar Stores are Losing Customers?

The local grocery store has recently added a guard with a gun at the exit. Or at least he has a gun case hanging from his belt.

My local Kroger has had an armed guard at the door for the last couple of years. Never seen him in action, and it must be an incredibly boring job, but I imagine it probably deters some attempts at theft. I generally try to make eye contact and say Hi to him to break up his monotony.

After almost 40 years in the insurance business I understand this policy. If your child or grandchild were working a minimum-wage job would you want them to pursue a shoplifter who might be armed or otherwise dangerous?

It might be riskier to be a thief at an independently operated store with unknown policies and the possibility of an owner on site,
