Major Life Style Modifications

I think retirement becomes a status quo, a comfortable routine. No work schedule but exercise and social/volunteer stuff becomes part of a calendar. Pretty much routine activities most days of the week.

A vacation to me usually means no plans other than a few items that tend to be touristy.

If I don't sleep at home, it's a vacation.

On the cusp of retirement, so this thread is of great interest to me.

I notice many here talking about the burden of maintaining whatever we own. Really makes the case for hotel based stays away from home or the condo life for the primary home...although maintenance fees could be a concern.

Secondly, some talk about going on vacation, LOL - isn't retirement a permanent vacation? :). How can you tell the difference? :)

Even though I'm retired, when I'm home I have to take care of my cat, buy food that requires an oven, mow my lawn, check the mail, and clean my house.

On vacation, my daughter takes care of my cat, I buy food that doesn't require an oven, and I don't mow my lawn or check my mail or clean my house.

Of course, in both cases I don't have to go to a job.

That's how I tell the difference.
