This is in Southern Maryland....

Saw one of these yesterday, thought what's that? Walking down to dock today to talk to my Eagles, I saw about 10 of these crawling on asphalt, saw none in grass or mulch. They look like they are walking on backs with these leg looking things on their top. Was touching one with a stick and it was trying to bite it and also I'll call it blood was coming from mouth and poop from backside, Defensive mechanisms for sure...

Tried id'ing with some Maryland Bug ID apps on computer, no good.

Anyone have any ideas?
At first thought termite, never saw one before, not one of those....

I have learned, only to poke bugs with a stick.
I saw an interesting caterpillar once, very hairy. I looked it up and found out had I touched it, I'd be in pain for a while as it has poison spikes..
