Didn't vote, since we don't meet the reuirements.

DW claimed this year at FRA, gets $1918/month.

I'm waiting to age 70 (2 1/2 year to go). If I claimed today I'd get $3282. If I wait to 70 I'll get $3995 in todays dollars.

Did not vote because not yet collecting. If I started collecting now I would get a little less than $1400/mo.

My Aug 2023 SS Statement indicates that I would receive $4,488 if I defer to age 70, which I plan to do so I voted over $4,000.

DW was a SAHM and started at her FRA based on her own work record. She is collecting $1,030/mo now but will get 50% of my PIA, plus COLA once I start collecting.

Just stumbled across screenshots I did in 2021.

Considering receiving mine anywhere from 66 y.o. to 70 y.o.
Range from 3.3k to 4.4k.

Does that mean he doesn't qualify for medicare as well ?

No, he always paid into Medicare. He worked for a county social service agency. They didn’t participate in Social Security because they had a pension system instead. Participation in Medicare has been required since late 1970s or early 1980s.

Even if he hadn’t paid into Medicare he could qualify as my spouse.

But that’s a good question!

I am not old enough to collect so I didn't vote but the SS website estimates I will get $1008/mo at age 62.

My social security is $115.60 per month due to WEP. It is held all year for Medicare premiums and I also have to send them a check for the balance owed. I will not receive any of my spouse's social security due to GPO.

Took mine at 70 last October:

$4177.50
-$527.50 Part B and IRMAA
-$77.50 Part D and IRMAA
-$428.70 Withholding 12% tax
----------
$3143.80

Started collecting SS last year at my full retirement age. This year my gross monthly SS amount is $3,418.90 and the net is $3,254.00.

As jebmke posted, what have we learned?

Well, we've learned that at least 75 forum members are receiving SS to some degree...

Not taking SS yet. DW started at age 62.5, currently getting $619/month.

I have less than a year until reaching FRA (Yay!). if I start then, from the last SS report generated, I would get $3,660/month. Waiting until age 70 (which I currently plan to do to maximize survivor benefits) would be $4,637/month. Of course, this does not include COL increases for 2024 and beyond.

I do not know about anyone else here, but I think $3,500 a month SS which so far 10 folks here are getting is not shabby at all. Even those getting $2,000 - $3,000 which seems to be the majority here at ER.ORG is a healthy addition to one's own stash withdrawals. Of course, I am very happy for those who get over $3,500 and $4,000 as I know you all have worked hard and paid into to SS for longer that some and are now reaping the benefits.

I am not sure I can feel the same for those on the lower side who cannot supplement SS with their own stash withdrawals or a pension. I consider this group quite lucky all in all. Not saying that each and every last one of us has not worked and saved very hard to have earned it.

Claimed at 70 & get the maximum: $54,738, $4,561/mo.

I hesitated to post since few people have posted a similar amount. But wanted to say that I'm very glad I waited.

And very lucky!

DW and I both receive less than $1k. Most of my 40 quarters were earned during high school and college, so I paid in very little. No complaints, though, as what really matters to me is Medicare eligibility.

I was just thinking before I read this that I could have had more SS had I worked in the last 16 years since FIRE. But then quickly decided that I wouldn't even consider trading the time for the money. My health is shot now, and hadI worked longer I'd be feeling really ripped off. But I have had a long, happy retirement, and a few hundred dollars/month would never make up for that potential loss.

I didn't vote as I am still w*rking and not quite at FRA, so I am not collecting. (I likely won't collect for awhile as I try to do some Roth conversions.)

If I started collecting today, my handy dandy spreadsheet tells me I would receive about $3300/month (gross).

One of these days I will get around to the "RE" (well, now RL - retire late as I am coming up on 66) part of FIRE.

Not claiming yet. But SS online and Anypia calculator said I will get around $2,400+ at 62 years old (that's 2.3 years from now), while older DW who is full retirement age will get $1,700 based on my SS.

I get $2480/month, filed at 62 in January 2023.
DW will wait until 70 to file to maximize her payment.

Current plan anyway.

Me: 62 and DW: 63
Both holding off till 70 so can't vote
My benefits will be very close to max
Hers will be ~60% of max

Cheers.

My SS is $4,300.00 before deductions, I claimed at 70. Wife's SS is $2,093.00 before deductions, she started collecting at 64.5.

My DW said a funny thing to me today, I was vacillating about buying something. She said: Quote "Don't worry about it, it is ONLY less than half of your SS payment". LOL I though that was funny.
