Santa Claus's Retirement Plan at 65 Years old

Warm place to lay your head and meals provided, might be a better arrangement than he can do outside prison.

That guy bears an uncanny resemblance to me (or, how I might look at 65, if I grew out my beard, mustache and eyebrows.)

Now I have a back-up strategy if my ER financial planning turns out to have been flawed!

Free room and board, at the county's expense. And spread some holiday cheer at the same time. What's not to love?

Sounds like he is mentally ill.

Dad?

My grandfather was a NYC cop - back in the day. (He died years before I was born so this is third-hand.)

They used to lock up "the bums" over the winter to get them dried out, out of the cold, and three hots and a cot.

Per DF, if DGF saw a "bum" acting up during the warmer weather, he could whistle for him. The threat was "Joe, if you make me chase you, I'm not taking you in come winter."
