Still got the " Aw Crap , I have to go to work Monday" feeling

Not only will it pass, it'll get better. I can't wait for Monday. All the people are back to work, we can get out of the house, go out to the cinema or a restaurant and not have any crowds to fight. The supermarkets have lots of space and by Tuesday they are well stocked again.

Rush hour is a bit of a hassle but for the most part I only see it in the morning when I'm out walking .. and looking at the faces of stressed drivers.

This how I used to hope it would be when we retire. Problem is it's not that way here in the metro mess, on the days that I take PTO and have to run some errands there are people everywhere. I often wonder if anyone works anymore :)

DH and I got home from 2 weeks in Alaska last night- thoroughly exhausted from 2 days of travel (off the ship in Juneau, then Juneau to Seattle Saturday, 6:20 AM flight out of SEA Sunday, landed at MCI at 6 PM after one connection and 2 time zone changes). Both of us were fighting bad colds.

We planned this vacation a year ago and I hadn't anticipated that I'd be retired. It was SO wonderful not to have to drag my body into work today.

I've noticed that, too, since retirement! I do think things are less congested but I look at all the people out shopping and eating in restaurants and wonder who's supporting them. It's summer so you'd expect teachers and students to be free, but it seems to be a lot more than that.

Don't have the 'Aw Crap" feeling this Sunday :), but the last week , every-time I am out running errands, it still feels like Saturday , like " Oh, don't plan on anything the day after tomorrow ".

Still adjusting. Very slow moving on to un finished projects, etc.

DON"T have a feeling of , not being at work, understandable, because I really dis-liked my last assignment.

When I switched from working FT to PT back in 2001, I was able to shed having to get up early and go to the office on Mondays nearly totally. For a few years, I was working mostly from home so I still had a little work to do on Mondays but that did not start until 10 AM, giving me plenty of time to sleep in, eat breakfast, and get on line by 10 AM. My go-to-the-office day was Tuesdays so that seemed a little like my Monday.

When that mostly telecommute deal ended a few years later, I was able to keep the PT thing but had to go to the office to fulfill my hours. I had a somewhat flexible choice of 3 days to go to the office. After expermenting with different trios of days, some of them including the dreaded Mondays, I settled down on a Tues-Wed-Fri trio. A few years later, I switched to a 2-days-a-week deal so it was simple to avoid working on Mondays.

The last time I worked on a Monday was October 3, 2005, the last of 4 scattered Mondays I worked that year.

A lot of people, myself included, don't work Monday through Friday daytime. They work evenings, nights, and holidays. Nurses, hospital based physicians, anyone that works in any business that it open on weekends such as stores, gas stations, restaurants, even some banks, are frequently off during the week. I got back from vacation and my first day back was today--Sunday. I hate going to work but I am fine once I'm there. I love to work weekends since there is no traffic, the physicians parking lot is only 1/3 full. So I can get that "Aw shucks" feeling after any day off if I am working the next day.

How does that song go:confused: "Hanging around...Nothing to do but frown. Holidays and Mondays always get me down"...

Just finished reading this thread and I have to tell ya, I hate Mondays, but that will make my ER all the more sweet. I just received my next and last assignement; a move to DC. But that marks the home stretch as I will only have four years to ER when I start the job in October. I so look forward to liking Sunday nights again and loving Mondays! Wonderful World of Disney anyone?

Biggest problem with retirement is not being able to look forward to having a day off.
:(

Imoldernu, That's what I was thinking too. After retirement I never had the problem on Sunday of forgetting I didn't have to get up and work on Monday and then realizing I didn't have to go to work. Kind of like having a nightmare and waking up and everything is ok. The best thing for me is that I can have a busy weekend now and not have to worrying about being too tired to get up on Monday. If I had a full weekend I just sleep-in. I think, for me, that's the best part.

I still have M-F routines and weekend routines, they are just different than they used to be. Other than the farmers' market, I try mightily to avoid shopping and eating out from Friday evening-Sunday evening. I do generally try to avoid the computer more on the weekends, especially anything for the multiple volunteer engagements I'm involved in. The biggest difference is I rarely set the alarm, unless I have a firm appointment before 9:30am. Like tomorrow - a 7am appointment for a root canal. :(

As a bit of an insomniac, it is so nice not to fret about the 5am alarm clock --waking up at midnight, going back to bed at 3, waking up again around 8...then maybe getting dressed, maybe, maybe not, gotta be ready for nap time.

That's my biggest issue right now. I didn't use to have sleeping issues, but the last couple of years the insomnia has been horrible. It's only the nights before I have to work, so I fully anticipate that it'll resolve itself when I retire. Speaking of which, I'm now down to 72 working days!!!!

I had frequent insomnia my last five or six years of work. It vanished within a month after retirement.

The Sunday evening "aw crap" mood went away immediately for me. It felt so good that first Sunday after retirement to not worry about working the next day!

During the week...I sometimes have the, " Aw Crap, I don't know what day it is today" feeling...

ER about 7 months, but still have the "Aw Crap", it is mostly due to DW having 14 months to go to ER to get pension time in, I get up with her @4 AM and have coffee and make her lunch for the day. I am also doing 5-6 hours/month for old boss to keep some IT systems running for about 5 employees, mostly remote support.

On the weekends I have the "Aw crap, where did all of these people come from" if I go to the stores.

Yeah you're right. It's tough not instantly remembering what day of the week it is. But, after being ER'ed since January, I've grown to understand that being ER'ed means it doesn't matter what the particular day of the week is (except Sunday, of course). It's just fantastic!

I do have to remember Tuesday evenings because I have to put the trash out. Those first few months it didn't happen more than once.

For us it is Wednesday evening and yes it happens a few times a year. We forget the what day of the week it is and don't put the trash out.:nonono:

I forgot it again this past week. I found that putting it on the calendar doesn't work because it still means that I have to look at the calendar. Now, thanks to the comments on this tread, I have just enshrined it as a task on my cell phone. Now 9PM Every trash day I will get an alarm. Just hope I can remember to carry the phone.

Same here. Luckily DH always remembers garbage day. I would forget without an automated alarm.

I suspect we have kept several of our day-of-the-week traditions (like homemade pizza every Friday night and fish (for some long-forgotten reason) every Monday night) just to keep us moored. And to remember not to run errands on the weekends if we can avoid it. ;) (That last one being crucial in a resort town in the summer.)

Yep, on Tuesdays I have to remember my Tuesday afternoon golf league.
