I think the more appropriate term is called "ghosting". Seems also a trend with the younger generation, not showing up for job interviews.

Vonte should have tried the Kuwaii (?) Leonard scheme of pretending to be injured so that the Spurs would give up on him (while still paying him) and trade him away. It worked (sorta).
