I was born and raised in Ireland and lived there well into my mid 20s, so I might be a bit biased. Where do I start? In many ways it's a great country, with friendly people, gorgeous scenery and rich culture. It has its dark side: a history of religiosity and prejudice, and a tendency to corruption and graft. It has improved greatly in recent years in terms of work ethic and human rights. But it still rains a lot (it's the only way to get 40 shades of green). I left in the 80s for two reasons: 1. To seek opportunities that would not be available at home and 2. To get away from "the valley of the squinting windows". I suppose I have a love-hate relationship with the place.

Does that help?

I remember, during my first (of five) trips to Ireland, chatting with a young Irish guy over breakfast in a B&B. (He was staying there on business travel.) He had lived and worked in SoCal for a number of years but had returned in his early 30's. His observation was that it was a good thing the weather there was the way it was. Because, if in addition to all its lovely attributes, it had nice weather, they'd never get rid of the tourists!

Wow, very cool!

I grew up as an Army brat, then into the Air Force (Engineer) for 6 yrs active + 17 yrs reserves, and worked for an international engineering/construction company for 30 yrs. Thus, all the moving.

Getting from the first location on your list (Baumholder) to the last location (Sausalito) has been a 60 yr journey for me, with a few stories on the way. But, as an OV-10 pilot in your age group, I'm guessing you were a FAC in Vietnam, and are probably just happy to be here to "tell" the stories. Good on ya!!!
