I was born and raised in Ireland and lived there well into my mid 20s, so I might be a bit biased. Where do I start? In many ways it's a great country, with friendly people, gorgeous scenery and rich culture. It has its dark side: a history of religiosity and prejudice, and a tendency to corruption and graft. It has improved greatly in recent years in terms of work ethic and human rights. But it still rains a lot (it's the only way to get 40 shades of green). I left in the 80s for two reasons: 1. To seek opportunities that would not be available at home and 2. To get away from "the valley of the squinting windows". I suppose I have a love-hate relationship with the place.
Does that help?
