That is scary!! I hope everything turned out O.K., for both man and bear.

That is a good way to become "one with the bear". The ultimate achievement!

Years ago, there were two nature lovers hiking in the Aleutians west of King Salmon. They had many warnings by locals and and Fish and Wildlife folks, to carry heavy caliber weapons in case of brown bear attack. Brown bears weigh from 400 to 800 lb.

I have clocked one brown, for better part of a mile, in Cold Bay, Aleutians, while driving to a remote site, at 25 mph. The bear was trotting on tundra. Which for those not familiar is short dense vegetation, always soggy, kind of like wet sponge.

The hikers refused, they insisted that their love of animals is good enough defense. To top it off the fools ended up camping on bear trail. Some time later some of their parts and boots, camping gear were found.

So they achieved nirvana with the bear.

Unfortunately, Fish and Wildlife now had to go out find the bear and kill it.
