In 1998 a relative of mine married a Blockbuster employee. At that time there were already rumors of obsolescence in Canada, fueled by the advent of video downloads, PVRs and online DVD sales. Later, streaming made the Blockbuster business model irrelevant. Blockbuster's Canadian stores closed in 2011.
