My Garmin has been broken for a few years. Looking at a new unit.

I was wondering if any of the gps units for landlubbers also show positions reliably in harbors, rivers, canals ,etc. ?

The garmin handhelds can be chipped with accurate nautical maps, but I don't know if the handhelds can get the same functionality as their automotive units for roadway use.

I wouldn't trust the automotive units to have accurate water feature locations.

Checked out Lawrence marine. Really surprising how inexpensive radar is now. Somewhat different purpose, but almost too cheap to leave out for anything other than daytime boating in sight of land .

You might want to check out the Navionics apps for inland lakes and waterways. I've used the iPhone version, but they also have iPad and Android versions. Very affordable and nice detail on the maps.
