I also started with my orthopedic, and then the podiatrist that they have on staff. Got the custom fit orthotics a few years ago and a new pair last year. I used to have trouble with foot/toe pain while hiking/running or even walking. Not any more - the orthotics seem to have cleared it up - I wear them every day.
