... without having to do anything to earn it! :)
Sure you did! It's called "delayed gratification" that allowed you to save that principal that now earns the income.

I just reached 10 years.

Hope to be 75 this September. Last day I worked, December 28, 1988, at 46 years, 3 months, and 1 day old.

Wow, that was 28 and 1/3rd years ago.

Let's see, am over 65 and formally retired 5 years ago but I retired on the job a few years before that. Do I count the years I was retired on the job too?

Just realized, I wasn't even retired when this thread was started.

Maybe we should have a poll on the ratio of (years retired) / (years working)!

Holy Cow! I'm close to 0.5!

Ahhh, there's the rub. We won't be able to agree on what 'counts'!

So I take back my 'near 0.5'. I worked part time in college, worked on the family farm before then, had to clean my room and weed the garden before that...

Hey, the poll is 7-year-old, and I could still vote!

Of course, my vote is out-of-sync with all earlier votes, but that's not my fault.

Yes indeed.

Since Dex is bumping so many of his old threads maybe I should add another option to this old poll, "Retired and still alive"

Retiring 6-30-17 at 60. DW was stay at home mom full time (I was road warrior or near RW most of my career). I was (am - for now) in middle management at mega corp (so comp in later years is low six figures, not huge salary, no stock options etc). While not extreme ER, proud we were able to pull off what we did on my income (LBYM).

Looking forward to being eligible to partake in this poll!!!

Likewise! Still getting a check, but work from home most days and work load is often (way) less than 8 hours a week. Been like that for ~3 years. But, since I have to answer calls and emails, I'm sorta still working.

Anyway, my comp for those ~8 hours works out to about $300/hr. Not too shabby. But still very happy to retire in 3 months!

Turned 60 in February, turn 4 May 1.

I wonder what happens to the older posters.

Where ya been Dex, sittin' on top o' that mountain all this time?

I wasn't retired when the poll was poste 6.5 years ago, now @55 Ive been retired 4 years.

Retired at 47 in 2013, now 3.5 years in and as busy as ever in a good way. Life's too short to not make the most of it.
