Valium might lessen your overwhelming need for need histograms! Standard Deviations! Confidence factors!

Never! Did you read the first part? I'm an engineer!

Look, ERD50, I'm just trying to help (well, maybe not so much).

Perhaps you could find a certain amount of comfort if you sliced up each Valium into 16 equal parts. See, don't you already feel calmer just thinking about it? Then, you could start experimenting taking different amounts of the pill and discovering how many slices works best for you. You could also spend some time on-line looking for the best ways to cut up a pill. And, you could research different methods of measuring the strength of your need/desire for histograms! Standard Deviations! Confidence factors! If you like, you might consider contacting midpack whom I'm sure would agree to make colorful charts and graphs for you regarding your findings.

Thanks, I appreciate it, but no, that does not help at all. You see, the first thing I question, immediately, is "what are 16 equal pieces?". How can we know that the active ingredient is homogeneously incorporated throughout the pill? Perhaps there is an encapsulated blob, coated with an inert ingredient? There would be no motivation on the part of the pill maker to assure the blob was perfectly centered, it is of no concern to them, they just need to have a dose in there somewhere. So 16 physically equal (within some reasonable tolerance - nothing man-made is perfectly equal) pieces may not represent 16 equal (within some reasonable tolerance) doses. What to do?

I can tell you are just a little jealous you [-]aren't obsessive about unimportant details[/-] don't approach life with this sort of insight and zeal, right?

Very commendable, ERD50. Yes, the first step is to admit you are an engineer and that you are powerless over the mindset of an engineer--that your life has become unmanageable. This is something that is taught in EA. Please keep in mind, this condition is not your fault. Perhaps you had close relatives who were engineers or maybe you hit upon engineering as a way of self-medicating. (Should have tried an anti-anxiety first—but no, you chose not to listen to redduck, the Wise and the Less Encumbered (but, only in areas that are not important).
Which reminds me of one of my favorite nicknames of all-time: Ethelred the Unready (King of England, 978-1013 and 1014-1016. It sounds as if he took a sabbatical).

I don't know about splitting Valium, but a while back I told a story about a man splitting Viagra pills. See: http://www.early-retirement.org/forums/f27/its-funny-joke-thursday-20756-127.html#post1014927.

Meadbh...
If you are interested in pain (and who isn't?), you might want to click on NW-Bound's link to a joke he posted way back in 2010. NW-Bound's recalling this particular joke leads one (i.e. me) to believe that possessing a good memory may be over-rated.

If I find a billing mistake, either way, I fix it. Dutch/Presbyterian/engineer DNA. The ghosts of my ancestors will have no other way. It has astounded some people I have dealt with in other cultures, but I think it is in the human heart because so many people respond positively.

Ain't changin' my ways.

Just bumping this thread due to a few items...

Since my last post, I have had a number of items mispriced... most I have caught, but not all...

I was in Kroger the other day buying meat... they had a great sale.... but when I scanned the items the full price came up... I said where is my discount... I was told it will come off at the end...

SO, I click to check out and the savings start to come... but I cannot tell if they all came or not... I paid for what I had and before leaving I decided to look at the receipt... yep, they did not take off for two items which would cost me $7.20.... so I had to wait in line to get my money back...

I have had problems before with Kroger not charging the listed sales price... I would say between 10 and 20% of the times I go there they try to overcharge me.... so far they have never tried to undercharge me...

Because of this they are not our main grocery store... but they sometimes do have good sale items so we still go....

In the long run I think every grocery store has taken a lot more from me than I have from them.... oh, and the bagger tried to give me something that they had left on the counter from some other shopper... I told him it was not mine....

Well, Kroger did it again... but with DW this time.... she had already come home and I was looking at the receipt and noticed a couple of overcharges...

We had to go back to the store to get our money back... overcharged again over $6... but this time they decided to just give us what they charged, so go back $16.... $10 for the real cost of the items and the $6 overcharge...
