What is your pet peeve of the day?

Shoe laces. You would think that with today's technology and production methods that your laces would stay tied. Nope, out of multiple pairs of shoes only 1 pair of Columbia hiking boots have good laces. All of my other shoes from dress to casual to tennis' all have to be double knotted in order to remain tied. Geez, I feel like a little kid again when my mom had to double knot my shoes!

https://www.npr.org/sections/health...ling-the-mystery-of-why-shoelaces-come-untied

Apparently I had been tying my shoes wrong my whole life. Since seeing this guy in a TED talk I have been reversing the loop at the end and voila, my shoes now never come untied. Try it!

Oregon 529 plan. Struck me that with the market down just a tad it would be a good time to contribute to a couple non-related kid's 529 plans. I have the kid's social security numbers and birth dates and have contributed each year for a number of years. Every freaking year it has been a major PITA! The parents are apathetic at best and don't get that there are advantageous times to buy. OCSP suffers from an abundance of caution and want to mail me forms every year so I can fill them out and mail them back with a paper check. Did that last year about this time and both checks and forms in one envelope disappeared. Didn't fund until February via a three-way phone call with me, a parent, and an OCSP rep who went beyond normal phone rep standards.

The money is for the kids, so they shouldn't be penalized for parental apathy or organizational red tape but my mood isn't good.

you know what drives me nuts? Varying the volume levels in a program I'm watching. Music, car crashes, gunfire = LOUD!!!

Important dialogue = whispers...hushed voices...

I have to watch with my thumb on the volume control so I can constantly manipulate the levels. WTF??

and those people who talk in a low voice especially when they're not facing you.
Speak up!

Completely minor, but funny. We live in Heritage Valley, the lemon capital of the US. My lemon tree is between crops, so I had to buy one at the market.
It was $1, and the sticker showed it was from our local grower. DW was shocked at the price

As an RVer, my pet peeve is people who are so oblivious/ignorant/clueless/rude that they walk through your campsite. Had a guy today who was walking his two yippy dogs and chose to walk them through our campsite rather than the large open area immediately adjacent. He wasn't taking a short cut, he deliberately led the dogs to our RV.

It was near dusk and while he paused to allow the dogs to sniff around under our picnic table, he stared into the window of our camper.

I went outside the camper and we had words. Probably won't improve his future campsite etiquette but it made me feel better.

Guy at one park I was at had a sign posted:

Here lies John, cold and hard
Last guy who walked through my yard

I just related the post to DW, who used to camp a lot with her late husband. She said that she would have been out there and told ther guy in no uncertain terms he was trespassing! She called him a Peeping Tom.

Walgreens messed up my pharmacy by-mail order. Checked my Doctor's notes online, he ordered 90 tablets, Walgreens sent 30.

So I see Walgreens has a "chat" session option - OK, better than sitting on hold on a phone, and I get a record of the conversation. Well, after ~ 12 minutes of back and forth....

Jason B., Pharmacy Specialist (10/29/2018, 10:23:41 AM): I'm sorry I show this was shipped out October 23 for 30 tablets.

Jason B., Pharmacy Specialist (10/29/2018, 10:24:54 AM): I show the xxxxxxxx is being process for 30 tablets. I recommend to contact online mail order directly to have this changed for 90 tablets, I'm very sorry this is unable to be done here via chat service please contact Walgreens.com Online Pharmacy customer service at 1-877-250-5823
So I get to sit on hold anyhow. :(

Ugh, another dreaded experience with a pedestal table today. Where are we suppsed to put our feet?
We have a small dining nook where we eat most of the time. It is a booth with two benches and a pedestal table. I'll re-do it someday, and am seriously considering cantilevered mounting of the table to the wall. Okay, it may look a bit like Denney's/McDonald's, but it makes room for my legs and sweeping/mopping would be a snap.

I notice that CR gives those tires a 40K mile "projected tread life" instead of 60K.

But I'm a long time Michelin fan and I don't think I've ever gotten significantly less mileage on them than expected, so I'm surprised at your issue.

I had good experience with Michelin prior to this most current purchase.

Trying to set up an appointment with a new Doc at a dermatologist practice:

I call office number. Get told to go to website and interface with "Karla".....Ohhhh Kkk..

On website and click on link for Kalra. New window opens and asks for phone number to verify it's a real person. OK, gave number.

Get text saying click on link to get back to Karla.

Back with Karla and it asks name, address, etc, reason for today's request ..

I type in "new patient"......waiting, waiting.....says will get text soon with a link to Karla (again) to complete process.

Next day....text says click on link, and then follow instructions. So I do this.

She (it) wants name, phone number, address (I already did this, BTW) and to upload images of Medicare Card and other insurance.

Ok......I scan the cards and go to upload.....GET FAIL MESSAGE DUE TO NOT SUPPORTING CHROME BROWSER!

I am getting pissed here....can't call these folks and MUST use KARLA.

So I sent a text to Karla saying I can't send you images and want to talk to a human. About one hour goes by and Karla texts me asking for my name, address and phone number..... (for the third time).

Late this morning, a person actually calls and I register with them over the phone. Asks for all the info again.....

Fortunately, the lady I spoke with was also old enough to be on Medicare so she "understood" about the Karla frustration.

Unless dermatologists are very scarce in your area I'd quickly find another. That kind of treatment is clearly not for the benefit of the patient, so I'd assume everything else is weighted in his favor too.

As we know, Walt, it's all about the money in the medical profession today.

2 to 4 month waiting list for an appointment at the dozen or so derm practices around here. Best I could do is to meet with a PA first in about a week.

This area is becoming the Medical Center North of Houston with 4 major hospitals and dozens of medical office and lab buildings within a mile radius of us.

Absolutely!
My dermatologist is one of the best (and busiest) in the area, and his appointments are done by human clerks with pencil and paper in giant register books. I've been seeing him for over 20 years and there has never been a problem.
