Glass of Water

Cats would drink out of a glass of water if I had it--nothing tastes as good as YOUR water to them!
I only wake up thirsty if I've had too much salt in my dinner.

That's why I started using a cup with a lid.
I don't have water on the night stand any more.

I start out with an empty glass and fill it up as the night proceeds (it's a guy thing, don't U know?)...

Maybe this would help with the cat thing.

Second the mouth open, throat dry scenario. Chronic rhinitis makes it difficult for me at night. Need that glass of H20, room temp please.

DH has always kept a glass of water next to his side of the bed, always. I think when he was growing up his overprotective mother would always heed the "I'm thirsty!" nighttime calls from him and his siblings, unlike in my family. I rarely bring water with me at night, and I don't think our adult kids do either.

I started keeping water next to my bed only in the last couple of years. Started with a bottle of spring water but since I am trying to use less plastic, I fill a glass and take a swig if I feel a little thirsty. This past Christmas a co-worker gave me a beautiful red wine goblet that she hand painted, and I like to use this glass...it looks very pretty next to the bed. I also have an antique cranberry glass mini decanter with a tumbler that fits over it that belonged to my parents. I am afraid to use it by the bed as I don't want to break it...I want to keep it pristine for when my son donates it to the Goodwill after he cleans out my house upon my demise.

I personally don't keep a glass of water by my bed but, when we have guests, I leave a bottle of water in their room.

Glass or bottle of water by the bed every night, if I wake up, I'm always dry so it's handy. I usually finish it in the morning if there is any still left.

I used to keep a glass of water by the bed, but stopped. It usually sits there unused and it doesn't seem to matter how much ice was in it, it is room temperature by the middle of the night. Besides once I put a lot of ice in the glass, it was more humid than normal and so much water condensed on the glass that there was a puddle on the night stand and the top was ruined. Funny enough, when our washing machine flooded, the feet got wet and furniture restoration specialist took it and fixed the top. Just seems ironic.

On the other hand, I always need a bottle of water when I am in a hotel room. Most tap water tastes funny to me so I would rather not drink it. I think its more psychological. You know, when you don't have access to something you seem to need it.

Used to need to get up and use the facilities several times a night. Did a lot of research and took saw palmetto. One of the few herbal remedies that actually have been proven to work. Old guy urinary problems gone. Downside, I was only in my thirties!!

I have a new bedside cabinet that goes with my new bed I bought last year. My water goes into a double walled insulated mug (no condensation) that I top with a overturned small paper plate (to keep out any flying matter passing by). I have a nice pretty glass plate that I always keep on my night stand. So, every night I take my ugly old insulated mug, filled with ice and water, place it on my pretty plate and top it with my small paper plate. I've got a system.:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

I got tired of cleaning up broken glasses that kitty pushed off the table so keep my glass inside a drawer. Whenever I'm home there is a water glass near me. A photo box has been re-purposed to protect the glass from kitty in the living room. I'm amazed to see friends chug four glasses of ice tea with lunch; I can't drink that much all at once but sip water all day and always carry a small water bottle since it came into fashion here.

Events in your bed sound more exciting than those in mine.

I'll never tell....

One never knows what lurks in the dark night while one sleeps.

I haven't found any local laws prohibiting the refilling of those plastic bottles, so I like to thing we're easy too. Securely attached cap keeps water in, and bad stuff out. A total frozen plastic bottle filled with total frozen water (some call it ice) will stay cold all night. It melts enough to allow a swig every few hours of the coldest most refreshing water possible.

Wow, I thought everyone had water by the bed.

But, a glass? That's crazy talk. It's got to be a water bottle so you can reach out to where it's always kept, and drink without moving your head.

I've had a covered insulated mug on the bathroom counter, filled nightly with ice and water for at least the last 17 years or so (since we got an ice maker). When I was a kid, we had a well, and the water coming from the sink was cool enough for me, but the city water we have now needs to be filtered and chilled. When traveling, I just fill the ice bucket or drink from a bottle in the mini-bar fridge. My insulated mug is 32 ounces, and between DW and myself, we rarely drink more than a cup during the night, but always have at least a sip (to replace just a bit of what was lost moments prior).

Dawg, that reminds me of my cousin. She would invariably take her last beer to bed with her after a party or get-together at our house. I was always like are you really going to wake up in the middle of the night and finish that beer? Sometimes she did! Tough girl.

Is she single?;)

Cmon, Al. Still way too much work! You should be wearing your Camelbak to bed! :)

I usually keep a glass of water by my bed I don't always drink it. It seems like the nights that I forget is when I wake up thirsty in the middle of the night.

We each have one of those sports bottles next to the bed. With five cats an open class is courting disaster.

No, I don't have water by my bed. I'm only 31 and already have to get up every 4 hours(on average) to pee. The last thing I want to do is drink more water near or during bed time.
Well, I don't, but I'm 68 and I do have to get up every 4 hours to pee (have Benign Prostate Hyperplasia), but I always drink a bunch when I do go to pee (there being a water faucet in proximity to the toilet), so I've no need to keep water at bedside. I once thought drinking less water in the evening would reduce the need to get up to pee, but I've decided it really doesn't work like that. With less water, I still have to get up, but I just don't pee as much. It's a pointless strategy.

No one needs to convince me of the dangers of dehydration. I watched how this affected my mother when she was very old, and it was terrible. I'm going to be drinking more and more water.
