Done nothing much aside from thinking about my impemding dentistry  ordeal set fior Nov. 4. :(
Judging by the the post surgery medication prescribed I´ve got reasons to be scared out of my wits...
I've always thought that dentists should have interesting frescos painted on the ceiling. Perhaps a Goya? By the time I figure out what St. Anthony is doing, the dentist would be done.

Best wishes on the procedure, Vicente. Let us know how it goes.

I stand corrected, and congratulate you on the in-depth nature of your risk assessment!

Thanks NW, but I think I'll join Vicente on the beach in Spain!

I don't blame you. You've got nothing to gain by climbing that ladder, while I saw $4K+ dangling in front of me, plus the job satisfaction and bragging right to be claimed. Conversely, knowing that you are an MD, I will say I would not want to be an observer in an Operating Room, having no morbid curiosity to satisfy (even hard core porn scares me). However, I think I have made improvements in conquering my phobia of the RV black tank and its drain hose, the first step in the endeavor to purchase and use an RV. :D W2R will disagree here, but it is all about whether one thinks the gain is worth the cost.

By the way, I took no offense at any of the comments. You all meant well and did not want to see me getting hurt (Me too!). In order to capture the entire setup, the camera was placed at the deck level, not at the standing eye level, and the lens focal length was at the shortest setting. It had the unintended effect of dramatizing the ladder height even more, hence I was happy to post it, then await the anticipated responses. My palpitation when up on that ladder was very real however, hence I had no photo taken looking down from the top.

Actually I do agree but it would never be worth it, for me!

Also, I happen to be afraid of heights (although traveling by air doesn't bother me for some reason). You would not catch me on that ladder for all the tea in China. Climbing on a ladder to change the floodlight bulbs in my kitchen is about the maximum ladder risk that I will endure at my age. Cluck, cluck! :2funny: Thank goodness, I have gutter guards so no need to clean them out.

Vicente, you are doing a good job of promoting your village! It is a beautiful place. :)

I was coming home from downtown on the bus. The driver lowered the electro-hydraulic lift to put a very large wheelchair-bound guy onboard.

I heard the lift straining, and the bus tilted toward the side. Then again, and then again. After a few more tries the driver gave up; said to the man that he wasn't able to lift him.

I am not sure how he would get home. Maybe try another bus with better hydraulics.

Today was a rough day for those who live on the street. Some wind, and some heavy rain showers without much warning. I got soaked, and I was very happy to be able to come home and get a hot shower and relax in dry clothes in my warm apartment. I am often awed by what these people seem to be able to handle. Many of them are getting pretty old too.

Ha

Yesterday took the bike out for a long ride despite the 40 degree temperature. Insulated boots, a set of thermals, riding suit with wind proofing and insulation, balaclava and full-face helmet helped but still got mild hypothermia.

Note to self: Next time wear the heavier thermals and include the heating pads for body, feet and hands.

Took DW out for the promised steak dinner. Came home, fell asleep reading Blood, Sweat & 2nd Gear by flash gordon, MD. (Yes, that's his real name.)

Ah, darn it, I'm losing my touch.

I realized the dizzying heights aspect was exaggerated by the camera angle and lens. You created an excellent shot.
I'm afraid of heights and your pic caused a slight adrenaline reaction in me. One back pat awarded. :D

Wow, everyone here must have slept all day today!

Today was one of those glorious "I'm not gonna do squat" days.
I did accomplish exactly 1 constructive thing - I printed out all the VG forms to consolidate my investments all in one place. Yay! :D

Great accomplishment!!

I am on vacation today so I slept in for three hours. Then Frank took me out for lunch before he went to work.

This afternoon I am trying to shake off a cold, and just being lazy... didn't sleep all day, but very nearly!

I followed that kid in the runaway balloon story from CO all afternoon on TV. Glad he finally popped up in the box in the garage. Sounds like a good made-for-TV movie to me. Do you suppose that the script is already written?

Took the boat out of the water - this is usually the most depressing day of the year, knowing that winter is fast approaching

Wow, everyone here must have slept all day today!

I sleep all day every day. Unfortunetly I have to w*rk all night to be able to sleep all day. Today I was up "early" at noon so I could get groceries before the rain came. I look forward to when I can sleep all day without having to w*rk all night.

Today I ordered a pizza. For the first time in a least 10 years. Ordered it on line. Delivered within emailed time frame. Donato's medium: pepperoni mushroom sausage. Just under $15. Gave the delivery guy $5 cash. Stole his pen.

I realized I had his pen and went back to the door (he was still in the driveway) he said "don't worry about it", and drove away.

Meadbh: there´s another one for you... Promoting my village:D!

I will also have to add Galicia to the list of places I need to visit some days. I will need an RV in Europe to make the travel affordable, given so many places I like to go to.

I knew of Asturias, an adjacent province to Galicia, simply from the composition by Isaac Albéniz that was given the same name. The well-known John Williams guitarist performed in the following youtube video.

YouTube - Asturias - Isaac Albeniz

PS. As many others, I love the 2nd movement of the Concierto de Aranjuez by Joaquín Rodrigo. Sadly, the one time I was in Madrid a few years ago, my schedule did not permit me to go to Aranjuez, though we were able to go to Monserrat as a day trip from Barcelona. So many places, so little time, or was it so little money now that I have time?

Great accomplishment!!
Today is the day to fill out the VG forms. I can barely contain my enthusiasm.
18+ years of govt paperw*rk has given me a strong aversion to doing stuff like this.
I feel like I have the devil with the pitchfork ("Blow it off" >:D)on one shoulder and the angel with the harp ("Get it done!") on the other.
With that said, I am logging off...

UPDATE: 2.5 hours later, all I can do right now is...

Today was DW's birthday, so we rode into town and went to a sushi restaurant. I got her a bike jersey, so this picture is entitled "Wife in New Jersey:" ha ha.

And we both "rode our ages," which seemed quite difficult this year.

I've always thought that dentists should have interesting frescos painted on the ceiling. Perhaps a Goya? ...

Having gone to my dentist office for a deep cleaning session this afternoon, and with the right half of my mouth being still numb, I remember your post and have to make a response.

No art connoisseur here, so mention Goya to me and all I can think of are his paintings of the "Nude" and "Clothed Maja". I think he was the same Goya that did your beloved fresco. I just looked up online to find out that the fresco is in a church in Madrid. I am not sure if I would make an effort to go see it when we were there if I knew. However, we did see the Maja's and many more at the Prado Museum. Which of the Majas would make a pleasing subject for our dental patient? ;)

And speaking of paintings in Prado and interesting things for a dentist to put on his ceiling, may I suggest "The Garden of Earthly Delights" by Bosch? I spent the most time studying this 500-yr old painting, and in fact got my nose so close to it that the museum room attendant was alarmed. There are so many details, characters, and activities in this painting to keep a dentist's patient occupied for a LONG time. He may even beg to stay a bit longer to study it some more.

OK, OK, that's too much of a stretch. The patient may be too scared of the damnation and punishment scenes in Hell that remind him of his predicament at the dentist's hands. :(

Apologies to dentists among us. :flowers:

Made a big pot of soup with last of summer vegetables and homemade noodles and some chicken from the Farmers' Market.

Yes, I can cook.

Sounds good. Had steamed cabbage,Thai chili's,garlic and carrots. Cut up a few links of jalapeno sausage. Hmmm good.

Chaperone duty: our bunny Peter had a surprise playdate visit from Chloe, the white lop up the street.

He's been a solitary bunny most of his life and he's not well socialized to other bunnies, but one female in a 15'x25' room was apparently not too much pressure for him to handle.

We might do this again someday with Chloe's roomate "Thumper", another female.

Ahhh...Nords, I always love seeing a pic of your bunny. :)

What I did today. Hmmm, roused myself out of bed around 9:30. Later went to flooring/appliance store and put down my deposit on new flooring. Ate lunch, then started painting the patio. It's been raining so much I thought it might be Christmas before I got the outside of the house done. But, now I could be done in a couple of days. :D

Since we're having new flooring put down in five areas, we decided to save some money by tearing up the old carpet and stuff. Then we'll have to juggle the furniture around. I think I need to go back to w*rk. Retirement is wearing me out. :p
