I applied to switch my health insurance beginning 1/1 from one BCBS plan to another but haven't heard back yet on the status of my application.

So, I get this automated call today saying something like "This is BCBS, calling for my first name, my last name, in regards to your current health insurance, please call us back at *****, our hours are *****"

Their mistake I guess was the caller ID didn't show BCBS but just toll free caller.

So, I called BCBS at a number published when I applied to inquire on my status and question the number I just got called from. Yep..I verified that the number was catfishy.

Good thing I wasn't in a rush or tired or else I could have been tricked.

A friend I worked with in law enforcement had a saying: "Where there's confusion there's profit and scams."

I haven't seen anything yet to prove him wrong.

Had the scammer spooked the caller-id, I probably would have fell for the ruse.
