Blow that Dough! - 2018

We have both found that getting in/out of the pickup, even though it is 4WD and therefor a bit high off the ground, is easier than the much lower Honda Accord. We may end up selling the Accord well before it's "sell by" date because it is getting harder to get in/out of (mostly getting out).

Oh, and know the size of your garage entrance and the inside. One of the neighbors up the street bought a new pickup and once home found he couldn't fit it into his small garage!

It is easy to find running boards for about any pickup truck and my older sister wouldn't be able to get in her hubby's pickup at all without them, and she uses a walker to get around.

I couldn't handle a Honda Accord either. This is just one more wonderful thing about my Venza; it is the perfect height for me. Standing flatfooted on the ground, the seat is exactly the same height as my, er, behind, so there is no climbing in or out required.

My detached garage is HUGE. It has an oversized garage door (with a heavy duty garage door opener), and the ceilings inside are probably 20 feet high plus the main room where the SUV goes is about 24'x30' or more. I love it. :D

Honestly when I say this is my Dream House, it really is!! All the details, like garage size, are so well thought out.

I wouldn't worry about it. I still see plenty of Venzas on the road and everyone I know who owns one is happy with it. They quit making Saturns a number of years before they quit making Venzas, and I still see plenty of Saturns on the road too.

I'd like to blow some serious airline miles and do Delta One somewhere far, far away.

China is out. For some reason my wife doesn't have an interest in going there.

Australia and Tahiti is doubtful as we've been there before.

We could do something like Munich, but we would like to travel in January, so the weather isn't ideal.

Any thoughts? The further, the better.

Kelor,

Have you been to New Zealand? The weather is good in January and the South Island is gorgeous.

The fold out step is designed for a max weight load of 275 pounds. That won't work for the "Texas Big Truck Guys" as many are heavier than 275. :D

I thought all those "Texas Big Truck Guys" were about 5' 4" and wore a really big cowboy hat! :D

That's the "Texas Big Truck Gals".

To veer back on topic.... :)

I've decided to have the tub ripped out in my full bath and replace it with a walk-in shower. It's a soaking tub, so the side is about 7" higher than a normal tub, and it was quite festive getting in and out of it right after hip surgery earlier this year. So, while I should have had it done BEFORE surgery, I still think I'm ready to stop having to climb in and out and be worried about falling. Maybe this will add a few more years to staying in this house.

And my contractor costs an absolute fortune, but it's worth it. 100% dependable, great team, etc etc.

Thanks y'all...I really appreciate it. :flowers:

As for getting in and out of it, I've managed to fall into it gracefully and roll out with dignity.

Blow that dough! :)

Hahah! How does it drive. I have been trying to simply test drive one to see if its the car I am interested in. But they dont even let the dealers test em out apparently.

Does it feel like you are sitting on the road?

I just booked 2 nights at the Mark Hopkins in San Francisco for our wedding. A 1000 sq suite with a whirlpool bath and a terrace.

Only two thousand bucks, a grand a night - :)

Yes well I guess it is a once in a lifetime chance! Make sure you do not sleep through it! Also have room service to enjoy it to the fullest!

I hope Robbie B. can refer us to a support group if we take his concept too far.

I just bought my first new car in 30 years (bought a cheap Mazda B2000 pickup truck in my youth.) I like smaller cars. I bought a very nice loaded up Honda Civic yesterday, and I'm giving my old Focus to my SIL, who doesn't have a car, and can't afford one.

I almost feel silly driving such a nice car. I think it is gorgeous. My Focus is a stripped down unit with manual door locks, and crank windows. These new cars have more gadgets than I will every need. I think it is a sweet ride. I will be parking in the back of all the parking lots for sure

I've been considering a smaller RV, or a fancy new tear drop trailer. A long time friend called me, and asked if I wanted his mother's 1973 Airstream. He said it is the small one. 19' or 21' long with single axel. She has been parking it at a trailer park in the summer months, and it gets stored in a pole barn in the winter. Needs some TLC, but he said it was solid. Tires are old. I told him I would take it, if I have through the summer months to pick it up. This is a little crazy, but I'm fired up about it. I like working on vehicles, and will enjoy getting this trailer road and camping worthy.

Take care. JP

Class act. Enjoy it to the hilt.

Thanks! Yeah this is going to be something to remember - :)

Enjoy that new Civic!

Best wishes for health and happiness together, and enjoy that suite! Sounds really nice.

That is truly huge, and taller than an aircraft hangar for general aviation aircraft. Even firestations have doors only 12' high. General aviation aircraft usually have tail height of less than 14 ft.

My garage door is probably 1-2 feet higher than the standard garage door. You could easily drive any pickup truck in there, even the ones that are raised up like so many are. I don't think you could get an RV through the door, but maybe? I have no idea and I do not plan to ever own an RV.

And yes, my "probably 20 feet high" might have been an overstatement? Or not? At least 15-16 feet. I dunno. The ceiling in there is really high. My handyman had to erect a structure out of 2x4's in there in order to install the garage door opener, because there was nothing low enough to attach it to.

My garage has several additional storage rooms and workshops, as well as a bathroom. It is almost like having a second house on the property. After decades of wanting a garage, I love having my huge garage even though I don't really need anything that big at all. It's very easy to park in there (and I only have one vehicle). I never need to worry about hitting the back wall when I drive my Venza inside, and I have lots of room on either side too.

Before I lived here, the prior owner rented out the garage to some race car drivers who were using it to work on their cars and so on. I never saw how they had it set up, but if they wanted to jack the cars up with hydraulic jacks or something, there was plenty of overhead room for that. It has gigantic cabinets clear up to the ceiling and I am just trusting that they are empty, because there is no way for me to get up there and look inside them with a regular sized ladder (and I don't climb ladders at all any more).

Just took a bite on the Insta-Pot thread (on sale!) and blew some dough on it. I want to see what all the fuss is about. Threw in the glass lid too. When blowing dough, might as well go all out.

I just used the Instantpot last night while making dinner. I had forgotten to soak some beans overnight as the recipe advised. No problem. Less than an hour in the Instant Pot (20 minutes to get up to pressure, 30 minutes at high pressure) and I had perfectly usable beans.

Tomorrow I will use it to make more yogurt. I figure the IP has nearly paid for itself just in the savings on yogurt

I haven't been paying attention. "for our wedding".

Now that is how to really blow some dough. Congratulations Robbie B.

It drives great; but special attention (for me anyway) has to be paid when the foot is on the accelerator. We didn't have any problems testing the vettes. Maybe it's because we didn't wear our m/c helmets on the test drive. :D

Nope, it doesn't feel like we're sitting on the road...it is kind of strange tho, to be so low. It rides much smoother than I thought it would. Part of the reason is it has six way electric seats with a lumbar control. It's quite comfortable.

Very nice.
Thank you. :flowers:

I thought when/if DH gets tired of his m/c, a convertible would be a nice transition. Since we've drooled over vettes for decades, we decided to go for it. :)
