We were at our home that only has OTA TV last month, and suddenly I heard DW exclaim "On no!". I went in to see what the problem was. She had been watching MASH reruns, and the new colonel (Potter) was depressed. The camp psychiatrist was working with him and asked him how old he was. Potter replied 62. DW said "we're Col. Potter! I thought I was Radar!".

As long as you're not going through a Klinger phase, you should be okay...

Went to Costco this morning and picked up a nice pork belly. Cut up about a third of it and made Pork Belly Burnt Ends. That's our treat for Independence Day Eve. If you barbeque at all and haven't tried this, you really should. There are several variations, but they all seem to be based on this recipe:

Pork Belly Burnt Ends

The rest of the belly will spend the next week turning into bacon.

Today I stayed inside and monitored the A/C system to make sure it was operating correctly. So far it is.

Updated the spreadsheet of estimated expenses to show a higher electric bill this month.:D

It has been nasty here for a week. Mid 90s every day and lots of rain.

I tell myself that some people pay real money to sit in a steam bath, but we get it for free.

That doesn't help.

Same up here in the Toronto/Hamilton area. 90F and humidex around 100F.
Supposed to be like that until the weekend.

And I'm in the process of moving....

If it wasn't for bad luck, I'd have none..

It'll be nice and breezy driving over the Skyway Bridge....roll down your windows. ;)

And catch a lungful of Lake Ontario 'Fluids'...!!

gah...

Hey, I can only do so much for you...from here on in you're on your own.

It's been hot here, but not as bad as other parts of the country.

We've been spending time with the grandchildren since getting back to Chicagoland. DD is training for a triathlon and we're now going over 3 times a week to help with kids and dinner. I really enjoy the time with them, but we're also feeling the loss of personal time.

Here we are retired and still feel the day needs more hours. :)

Not me, but somebody had an impressive day today.

More than two centuries later, however, it was the pursuit of hot dogs that defined the holiday at Coney Island on the waterfront of New York’s borough of Brooklyn, where Nathan’s Famous held its 46th annual hot dog-eating contest.

Joey Chestnut once again dominated the competitive eating spectacle. The 34-year-old from San Jose, California, won his 11th “Mustard Belt” by downing an astonishing 74 wieners -topping the record of 72 he set last year.

Went for a 4th BBQ at our Son’s place. Gas BBQ crapped out. Home Depot was closed. DDIL is a gourmet chef and it didn’t phase her. Enjoyed the night with the Grandkids, carne asada, corn salad, a real non-tractional treat. 1st 4th at their place. Life is so freakin’ good. Little kids with their sparklers. Hope this was a good day for all!

In the "Time flies" department:

When I went to the store this morning I was stunned to see a guy driving a Mazda Miata with a "Historical Vehicle" license plate. It was in great condition -- looked brand new.

It's been a brutally hot summer in many parts of the US. This week the heat has been punctuated with late afternoon thunderstorms here in New Orleans.

Great weather for enjoying long afternoon naps inside with the AC going full blast, sleeping to the peaceful sound of rain falling on the roof. Then staying up almost until dawn chatting with my honey, listening to random youtubes on the wackiest subjects, playing video games, or whatever. :)

Yesterday was the annual July 4th cookout and family gathering at DW's uncle's place on the Patuxent river near the Naval Air Station Patuxent River. He worked there for decades as a civilian and retired with a place right on the river, beautiful scenery. Two and a half hour drive each way but a fun way to spend the day. I ate too much of course, and didn't even start to get hungry today until about noon.

Torrential rains cancelled our (and many) 4th of July family outing. We had 7" north of Houston, but Houston areas had way more. So it's "on" for this Sunday afternoon, complete with fireworks! :D

Today: haircut for me, grooming for the dog. Pretty easy day.

Wow!!! That's a LOT of rain!!!

I looked at the radar right now, as well as our weather forecasts, and it looks like that storm should be here Saturday or Sunday but without the extreme rainfall. Guess it dropped almost all of its rain already.

Areas on the southwest side of Houston had over a foot of rain. I-10 (west side) was flooded and closed for a while. Kind of reminiscent of the early days of Harvey last year. But it's clear now and should be for a while.

We usually stay home on the 4th to keep the dog from freaking out between the illegal fireworks and firecrackers in the neighborhood and the official firework shows. We live in an urban area and every surrounding community has their own fireworks display so our dog thinks it is end times. But it was mostly quiet today so we were had a great time seeing the musical Grease at the Berkeley Playhouse.

I’m just chilling. A sweet day feeling lucky to have had (and have) such a good life! It’s one of those days to cherish.
Today when I looked at the clock it was 1:11 and 111 degrees. Pool needed a little more attention by my great pool guy! (That’s my DH)

Left Homer, and drove to Seward with stops at Kenai City Old Town and Soldotna River Walk. Made it to a lake 30 miles outside of Seward to spend the night. At this lower latitude, it gets dark at midnight. Being past the Summer Soltice also shortens the daylight hours.

Spent the afternoon fishing rice patties in Thailand with my brother in law and stepson, caught around 30 blue gill type fish
