What is your pet peeve of the day?

My pet peeve is the current epidemic of keyboard virologists, internet epidemiologists and amateur statisticians we're enduring.

Exactly what percentage of the virologists are also statisticians?

I agree. I love to read my newspaper sitting on the front porch rocking chair with my coffee and my cat on my lap. My screen is glared out from too much ambient light. Everything about handling real newspaper appeals to me over a screen. A screen feels like I'm looking through binoculars and that I'm missing stuff. I know for a fact I don't miss anything or mislead with click bait with printed newspaper. I can easily toss the ads and glance at headlines. Photos make more sense on the glance than screen too.
I know the days are numbered, but I'll keep getting the newspaper delivered long as I can.
Oh, have a subscription for my dad who has Alzheimers. He can't work a screen device. I gave him an iPad and next thing I know, he's got it so hosed up, takes me time to figure out what he did. Very frustrating for him.

Plus, you can use it as TP in emergencies... ;)

I have all of this mandatory time off of work (Thanks Covid19), and the weather will not cooperate to allow me to do anything outside. Today was 43* and very overcast with 15 mph winds, yesterday was 50*, spitting rain, and 50 mph winds...I just want a couple sunny/calm days ( I don't really care what temperature).

I know what you mean. Me and DW are quarantining at our second home, a 120 year old farm on a lake. We are having the same weather here as you describe. I still hike and do landscaping stuff outside but not a day goes by that I don't think about how nice a warm, sunny 70 degree would be! It will come.......

My pet peeve of the day is how completely messed up online shopping and ordering is these days. Sure, there are good reasons for it! But I don't have to like it.

I'd love to once again order something for a nice low price and have it delivered the day after tomorrow, like in the old days.

Darn right. It is not like we are in the middle of a once in a lifetime pandemic. And I'm getting low on my BudLime 3.2% beer and Red Vines.

Scientists who publish papers have to present statistics About their results all the time. Scientists are generally trained in statistics, especially the biological/medical sciences.

Thank you.....although it was initially intended as a Johnny Carson type "How hot was it?" response to Koogie's expostulation. ;)

Ah well, guess I can't win [-]them all[/-], [-]some of them[/-], any of them.

I can't speak for all scientists but it is usually a required course at the college level and fundamental for working in any life science.

Cheers!

Pet Peeve of The Day - Canceling my SiriusXM subscription. What a pain in the butt. After waiting in the queue had to decline six offers from "Steve". No thank you, please cancel my subscription . . . It was down to about $5.00 / month and even that was not worth it. I rarely use the car or the service. Canceled Netflix DVD system with a click of the button. That is the way to do it.

I got it "free" with my new car for a few months in 2017. Those bustards hounded me for a whole year to renew. A plague on them - oh wait.........

I've had to go through that rigmarole in the past, and I agree it's a royal pain.

But the inefficiency of their system can also work against them. My current car was supposed to have a 3 month trial subscription, and the salescritter said they would contact me about renewing it. But I've never heard from them and it's still working two years later. I never paid them a dime, and they've never contacted me.

Actually you could lie and tell them you just traded your car in, and they won't try as hard. When I traded my 2011 cruze in for a 2016 malibu, it was easy to cancel the subscription. I just ignored the emails etc for the new car since I put the music I like on a flash drive and plugged it in to the slot.

For the 4th time in three months, we have had our mail delivered to the wrong address, even though there is no other street named anything close to our street name.

Worse, for the second time it was a package delivered to the wrong address- even though another package, with the exact same address information, was delivered correctly. We could because the delivery times (as recorded in the USPS informed delivery) are about 30 minutes apart.

At least this time it only took them a day to resolve the issue... they are now assuming we are correct when we open a case.

pet peeve of the day: all these media and articles about what to cook at home while sheltering in place. Yeast, flour, and other baking items are still very difficult to find. So publishing these recipes is like taunting us.

My peeve today is online retailers who don't deliver as promised.

A week ago I ordered face masks from an online retailer with the statement they were currently in stock and ready for shipment. I even ponied up an extra $4.95 for expedited delivery. The next day after placing the order the charge appeared on my CC.

Since it has been a week with no notification of shipment I emailed the company today for shipment details. I was advised they were out of stock and expecting delivery soon but the shipment is currently held up in customs.

Totally misled as they were obviously not in stock. Also the charge for expedited delivery was for naught. I would not be surprised if the masks showed only after this crisis has passed.

They should give you the $4.95 back.
